President Obama walks past casket of Dorothy Height during funeral services in Washington, 29 Apr 2010

President Barack Obama eulogized U.S.civil rights leader Dorothy Height on Thursday as a history-making figure in \"a righteous cause.\" The president spoke at the funeral for Height, who died last week at the age of 98.

Later, she worked alongside Martin Luther King, Jr.and other leaders at the forefront of the civil rights movement, seeking equality for women as well as for African Americans.

Height led the National Council of Negro Women for more than 40 years, working on iues affecting African American women and families, such as health, education and economic matters, as well as basic civil rights.She also campaigned for international human rights and humanitarian iues in Africa, India, the Caribbean and other areas.

At the memorial service, President Obama said Dorothy Height visited the White House 21 times since he took office in January 2009.

He said she was determined to attend a meeting of African American leaders on unemployment in February, even though she was in a wheelchair and a blizzard was approaching.

The president said Height told him she would not allow \"just a bunch of men\" to control the meeting.When she could not attend because cars could not reach her snowed-in home, Mr.Obama says she sent a meage with her ideas.

\"I tell that story, partly because it brings a smile to my face, and also because it captures the quiet, dogged, dignified persistence that all of us who loved Dr.Height came to know so well,\" he said.

The president said Height\'s perseverance advanced the cause of justice, and eventually made it poible for him and his wife, Michelle, to live in the White House.

Mrs.Obama was in the audience, as were Vice President Joe Biden and many top U.S.officials.

Some of the nation\'s most prominent African Americans took part in the memorial, including poet Maya Angelou, opera singer Denyce Graves, Labor Secretary Alexis Herman, and gospel singer BeBe Winans.

Annual festival in New Orleans honors the memory of jazz musicians who have paed on

The 41st annual New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival is taking place in the city where jazz was born.Over a period of seven days the Festival will be visited by approximately 400,000 jazz music fans from around the United States, as well as from foreign countries.Proceeds from the Festival will go to support educational and cultural programs, and to aid struggling musicians.The Festival combines the music, culture and traditions that are unique to New Orleans.

This is the way New Orleans honors the memory of musicians who have paed on.There is joy and sadne and again joy.After all, this is the way the departed would have wanted it.A jazz funeral during a Jazz Festival is an old tradition here.

Musician David Egan says it is his favorite festive and that he was honored to be invited.

Over a period of seven days, the sounds of jazz, as well as other musical genres that trace their roots to New Orleans jazz, will pour from 12 stages set up at the local horse racing track.

Leroy Jones has been playing jazz for about 40 years.He first fell in love with the music at age 12.

\"From jazz came the other so-called popular forms of music -- combinations of different genres of music to make it a different type of sound.But the basis, the foundation, is rooted in jazz, which started in New Orleans,\" he said.

The music performed by this group of young musicians, who call themselves Roddie Romero and the Hub City All-Stars, is an example of the mix of styles that evolved from jazz and other local forms of music.

\"It croed many genres,\" Roddie Romero, band leader explained.\"You know, we\'re Cajun, we\'re Zydeco, we\'re a little bit Funk, we\'re a little bit R&B,All of the above.\"

The first New Orleans Jazz Festival in 1970 drew only 350 jazz

lovers.This year approximately 400,000 people intend to have a good time at the festival, despite a pouring rain on the first day of the event and a sea of mud on the second.

Organizing an event on this scale requires the effort of thousands ofworkers and volunteers.But it\'s not just a matter of putting in the hours [doing the work].

\"This festival is 41 years old now.So it takes, to do it at this level, all those years of expertise, and I think a lot of heart, actually, and a feel for the culture of New Orleans,\" said Louis Edwards, who has worked on the organizational committee for the past 25 years.

New Orleans is an ideal place to hold a festival.Musician Joe Krown says the city truly breathes music.\"There\'s just so much going on.Everybody wants music for everything.They don\'t have a meal without having music.They don\'t, you know, have an event without having music.It\'s in the middle of everything,\" he said.

The city draws jazz musicians from around the world.Katja Toivola experienced the Jazz Festival 15 years ago as a tourist from Finland and fell in love with New Orleans.She has now been living here for almost 10 years.\"Playing traditional jazz, New Orleans, out of the whole world, New Orleans really is the best place to do it,\" she stated.

The New Orleans Jazz Festival is neither the biggest nor the oldest such event in the world.It is, however, unique -- being held as it is in the city that is the cradle of jazz.Jazz has now been eclipsed in popularity by some of the musical styles it helped give birth to, but it remains a beloved and uniquely American art form.

This is the famous Paw Paw Tunnel on the canal, through which boats could travel only one way at a time.The tunnel bypaes a section of the Potomac River containing five horseshoe bends.

In the early 19th Century, it was thought that canals, in which boats and barges were pulled by mules along an adjacent towpath, would revolutionize commerce and travel.One of them — the Erie Canal — opened the West to commerce by connecting New York\'s Hudson River with the Great Lakes in the heartland.It made its backers rich.

Financiers in the Washington, D.C., area also knew what canals meant to cities like Venice in Italy and Tsaritsyn — later called Stalingrad and Volgograd — in Ruia.So they hurried to build a new Chesapeake & Ohio Canal from the old port of Georgetown in Washington to Pittsburgh in western Pennsylvania.

The Potomac River flows from Georgetown into the Chesapeake Bay, and Pittsburgh is on the Ohio River.Hence the Chesapeake & Ohio name.

A lock on the C&O Canal, near the place where the canal begins in Washington\'s Georgetown section.

The portion along the Potomac — 296 kilometers (184 miles) long — was completed to Cumberland in western Maryland in 1850.

It provided a calm, safe route west next to the river, which is nearly dry upstream part of the year but whose rapids rage in springtime.At

its peak in the 1870s, more than 500 long, narrow boats carried cargo on the canal.Mule stables dotted the route.

But the canal company ran out of money as faster railroads stole most of their busine, and the C&O Canal never reached Pittsburgh and the Ohio River.

Susan Brown Chase\'s 1916 drawing of a C&O Canal lockmaster\'s house.Remnants of its 74 stone locks, as well as brick aqueducts that brought it water from the river, remain.So does one long tunnel, just wide enough for one boat to get through.

A famous standoff took place there when boats arrived from each direction, and neither captain would back off.Finally a canal company official showed up and set fire to sheaves of green corn to literally smoke the boatsmen out of the tunnel.

In the Washington area, the C&O Canal still holds water.The National Park Service runs replica boats out of Georgetown.They\'re a big tourist attraction.And most of the old towpath remains, all the way to

Cumberland.It\'s a beautiful, wild trail for hikers, bikers, horseback riders — and canal lovers.

三、实践活动

除了勤奋学习，我还积极参加学生工作和学校活动。我深知：一个合格的优秀大学生不仅要有优秀的学习成绩，还要有较强的社会工作能力。因此，我十分注重自己社会实际能力的培养。刚一入校，我带着一些稚嫩和比别人多一份的成熟，带着对大学生活的热情和干劲，我加入了系社团组织，我始终以“奉献学院，服务同学”为宗旨，努力工作，积极配合老师及学生组织和参加学校的各项活动。以我特有的工作方式加强了班级之间的交流也促进了同学之间的友谊。真正做到为同学服务，代表同学们行使合法权益，为校园建设尽心尽力,工作中大胆创新，锐意进取，虚心向别人学习，做到有错就改，有好的意见就接受，同时坚持自己的原则；在遇到利益冲突的问题时，我坚持以学校、大多数同学的利益为重，决不以公谋私。虽然在社团只有一年时间，但是在这期间我学到了许多。

在学校和我院举行运动会期间，我自觉到体育场为运动健儿们加油助威。在寒暑假期间，我做过各种兼职，例如在大二的暑假我在学校外打工、实习，将自己在书本上学习到的理论知识运用于实践！工地虽然很苦，可是自己还是坚持了下来!学会吃苦是人生的必修课。其实生活就是要自己多给自己一些压力然后坚持着去完成，而后又一次的历练让我们的人生得到又一次的提升。

社会实践让自己收获了很多很多，这些都将是自己的精神财富。这次经历丰富了自己的实战经验，在社会上有了一些历练，体会了生活的艰辛，要自己的付出才会有收获。对人要有责任心，换位思考，培养吃苦耐劳的精神。作为大学生的我们，确实应该走出校园，在社会这个大舞台上去实践一下。

四、个人生活

我是来自一个偏远的农村，父母都是朴实无华的农民。全家共五口人，父母以务农为生，家庭收入主要来源于农田收入，加之家乡遭受自然灾害，家庭生活条件很差，尤其在我考上大学以后，今年妹妹也在大学接受高等教育，为支付高昂的学费家里的积蓄已所剩无几，生活情况很糟糕。但是农村的生活赋予我吃苦耐劳，不畏一切艰难险阻的品质。在节假日我进行了大量的社会实践活动，包括课余时间做家教，假期期间去打工等，以此来减轻家庭负担。我从没有因为家庭困难而自卑过，我时刻告警自己：既然我不能选择我的出身，我可以把握自己的命运，掌舵自己的未来。坚强的意志和不服输的精神让我在大学受益匪浅。

在生活中，我大胆实践，不断积累生活经验。人们常说，“生活是最好的老师”，通过在实践中不断磨砺，我逐渐提高了独立生活的勇气和能力。在与他人相处上，我做到了平等、诚信、宽容、互助，学会换位思考，尊重他人，在这个过程中，自己也获得了他人的尊重，在与同学相处时，学会相互理解、接纳和信任，并且严以律己，宽以待人，这样不但为自己创造了一个良好的生活氛围，还获得了真正的友谊。

现代化学英语教学中，黑板已经不是传统意义上的黑板了。挂图、投影仪、多媒体等的加入，使得黑板的内涵更加丰富。不过在这些先进的教学仪器未普及之前，我们只能大作黑板这篇文章，但在实际教学中黑板的重要性却常常被忽视，板书设计单调乏味，导致学生厌学情绪滋生，学习积极性大大降低。

在我们的印象中，板书除非就是“黑板白字”。形式单一，枯燥乏味。而提倡设计板书就是要一改这一传统模式，在原有的基础上加上一些图片资料，使之图文并茂，丰富板书的内容；形式上适当使用彩色粉笔，充实办事的色彩。备课时，在认真钻研课文资料的基础上，精心设计课堂中的板书，对每一个单词、每一张图片、每一幅挂图，甚至于相应的每句话都要事先安排心中有数。在具体的设计中，特别要注意充分发挥各要素的作用，如：

（一）挂图。挂图可以说是板书的“前奏”，其内容往往又是课文的重点。课文中有

一、板书的设计要科学、间简洁。

板书具有帮助学生构建知识筐架的功能，因而板书必须准确、科学地呈现知识，较好地

现教材内容的连贯性、逻辑性和层次性。板书应该根据学生的年龄、知识水平和接受能力进行设计。对于小学低年级的学生，板书设计要生动具体、通俗易懂：而对于高年级的学生，板书设计要求明晰简练、能启迪学生的思维。

除了具有科学性，板书设计还应该简洁，能突出呈现本课的重点内容，做到

让学生一目了然。

例如，水果类单词：课文中都是以复数形式呈现单词的，就要求我们帮学生了解单词的单数形式，为了正确区分单数和复数，我将单词分两行呈现上一行是单数形式，下一行则是对应的复数形式。这样板书简洁明了，学生一眼就可以看出哪个是单数形式，哪个是复数形式，方便学生记忆。

再如， Long 和short，以及tall和short这两对反意词时，为了让学生更加明确地了解这两个short之间的区别，我就运用了简笔画，迅速地在黑板上画下了一把长尺，一把短尺，分 别写上long和short；紧接着又画了一棵高树，一棵矮树，分别写tall和short上。这样学生很容易理解了两个short之间的区别。

二、板书的设计要美观、和谐。

板书的设计应追求形式与内容的完美统一，图文、布局以及色彩的和谐能使板书产生丰富的表现力和感染力，从而给学生以美的享受，使其在享受中学习知识。

1、书写美

教师在书写板书时要求做到快速、灵活、流畅和工整。教师漂亮、流畅的英语板

不仅能带给学生美的享受，还能给学生起到一个示范作用，提高学生的书写水平。

2、布局美

板书要疏密适当、布局合理。板书内容不能过于拥挤。凌乱无序的板书不仅对教学无益，

还会干扰学生的学习，降低他们的学习效率。一般来说，板书的主体内容应置于黑板 的中间位置，辅助内容放在两边，并且可以随时更换新的内容。

这就要求我们教师平时在钻研教材的同时，不断加强自身业务素质的提高。在提高自身书写水平时，还可以读一些美学方面，提高自身的审美观，力求设计出更多、更美的板书，给学生带来美的享受。

例如，服饰类的单词时我就在黑板上面画了个大衣柜，把衣服按季节和男、女分挂在衣柜里。

再如：句型A/Some…？Yes, please./No, thanks.时，我在黑板上画了个超市，在里面放了很多单词，给学生设计一个去超市买东西的情景，来练习句子。这样的板书布局合理，给学生以强烈的感官刺激，富有吸引力。

三、板书设计要有趣味性。

低年级学生的板书要求图文并茂，直观、生动、有趣味性。趣味式的板书就是运用有趣的字体变化和图画等方式进行板书→简笔画，以夸张、激趣的形式吸引学生的注意力，激起学生的学习兴趣。

下面是设计趣味性的板书的。

有关动物的单词，分别是：cat, dog, monkey, bird, zebra, elephant, panda and tiger.要求学生能听懂、会说这八个单词。对于4-6岁刚接触英语的孩子来说，在一节课的时间内听懂、会说八个单词，难度是很大的，因此，在设计教案时，如何能通过板书让学生很容易就接受这八个单词。步骤：

第一步：课前在黑板上先用彩色粉笔呈现一个动物园的背景图。整个板书模块的呈现，一下子就让学生感觉到本课的背景图是去动物园，调动全体学生的积极性，这样就非常顺利地拉开了教学的帷幕。

第二步：告诉学生今天我们要去动物园游玩，我们将认识很多的动物，并且可以和他们成为好朋友。这时再告诉他们，想要和这些动物交朋友是要过关斩将的。一听到玩学生们都很兴奋，可开心了。

第三步：认识新朋友——引入新事物。

首先，用彩色粉笔再黑板上画一个狗的简笔画，学生对此很感兴趣，不停地问：“What’s this?”这时我适时的在黑板上引入“dog”这个词，接着在黑板上不停地画“bird”，“zebra”,“cat”边出示单词，领着学生读这些单词，此时还把准备好的小图片拿出来给学生看，让学生熟悉单词，并能让他们跟实物对上号，日常生活中如果他们再看到此物就会又联想起这单词来。

接着，又用猜谜语的形式引出“monkey”,“elephant”,“panda”和“tiger”,如：给“elephant”编的谜语是“This kind of animal is very big,it has for legs , a long nose and two big ears.Can you gue what is it?”一般学过半册预备级和一级的孩子都能猜出来，用同样的方法让学生猜后面的单词，然后再板书，再领着学生读这些单词，此时还把准备好的小图片拿出来贴在动物园这个背景图相应的位置上，让学生熟悉单词，并能让他们跟实物对上号，日常生活中如果他们再看到此物就会又联想起这单词来。

第四步：成为好朋友 —— 复习单词。

当呈现出所有的单词，学生就已经过了第一关，认识这些动物，接着告诉学生下一关是和这些动物成为好朋友，即了解这些动物。这时，继续用简笔画的形式，但只是画动物的一半,让学生猜这是什么动物。

第五步：共同游戏 —— 参观动物的家。

成为好朋友后紧接着就进入了下一个环节，参观动物的家，带学生来到动物园游玩，这时课前画在黑板上的这些动物园图就派上了用场，学生们在我的带领下一一拜访这些动物，一个个地再认读这些单词。

第六步：送礼物——编一个chant，巩固单词。 参观完动物的家后，就该说再见了，这时安排学生们给这些动物送上一份特别的礼物，编一个chant,“dog,dog,汪汪汪；cat,cat 喵喵喵；monkey,mokey,最顽皮；bird,bird,天上飞；zebra,zebra,跑得快；elephant,elephant,鼻子长；panda,panda 是国宝；tiger,tiger,最凶猛；cat,dog,monkey,bird,zebra,elephant,panda,tiger and me,we are good friends”.这个chant既方便学生记忆单词，又是对学生的一次情感教育，教育他们要爱护动物。

再美，再有趣味的板书，如果千篇1律或囿于固定的模式肯定会让学生感到厌倦，因此，板书的形式应求新、求活、求变。在教学过程中，教师可以根据教学内容与体裁进行调整、选择与组合，设计新颖、灵活的板书。例如，有的板书重点放在单词上，有的板书重点则放在句型上。

例如，let’s go to 地点…by…的句型时，我运用了游戏的办法，制作了两个大转盘，分别在上面贴上要去的地方和选择的交通工具，学生转动转盘，然后将转到的地点和交通工具填入到句子中间。

五、板书的设计要结合学生的实际。

板书的设计要结合学生的实际，例如，当学生初学书写字母时，教师在黑板上书写字母，就一定要画好四线三格，提醒学生注意书写的位置；对学生容易出错的地方或要求学生牢记的地方，可以用彩色粉笔加以标注。

My Dream Home My dream home is very big and clean.It has at least five floors and fifteen rooms.On the ground floor, there is a kitchen, a dining room and a bathroom.There are no other rooms on the ground floor.My bedroom, study, bathroom are on the first floor.They are all very comfortable.My parents’ room is on the second floor.It’s also very big and clean.My grandparents live with us in this big house, too.Their rooms are on the third floor.On the fourth floor, there is a big balcony.I can play games, read books and chat with friends there.I also have a big and nice garden.It is beside the big house.There are many flowers and vegetables in it.It has a big tree.In summer, I can sit under the tree with my family.Behind the garden, there is a swimming pool.I can swim with my friends in summer.I think it is very comfortable to live in my dream home.

Yesterday\'s Tomorrow is Today,Tomorrow\'s Yesterday is Today,Today ,as a bridge,is more important,so Do Cherish Today! Today is the first day of new week.Not a good begin I think ,I lose something and feel so sad, I know I am growing up.Never look back ,cherish what I have now and make my future brighter!! I should learn how to live how to deal with thing and learn to do everything as a infant.The world changes so quickly!!
