Keep the Childlike Innocence

I.Introduction

The Little Prince first published in 1943, is a novella and the most famous work of the French aristocrat, writer, poet and pioneering aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry(1900–1944).The novella is both the most read and most translated book in the French language, and was voted the best book of the 20th century in France.Translated into more than 250 languages and dialects, and it has become one of the best-selling books ever published.Saint-Exupéry, a laureate of several of France\'s highest literary awards and a reserve military pilot at the start of the Second World War, wrote and illustrated the manuscript while exiled in the United States after the Fall of France. He had travelled there on a personal miion to persuade its government to quickly enter the war against Nazi Germany. In the midst of personal upheavals and failing health he produced almost half of the writings he would be remembered for, including a tender tale of loneline, friendship, love and lo, in the form of a young prince fallen to Earth. An earlier memoir by the author recounted his aviation experiences in the Sahara and he is thought to have drawn on those same experiences for use as plot elements in The Little Prince.II.A Summary of The Little Prince

The Little Prince tells a story like that: A pilot crashes in the Sahara Desert.A thousand miles from any habitation, while attempting to fix his plane, he meets a strangely dreed little boy who seems to have come from nowhere, and who demands that he draw a sheep.\"When a mystery is too overpowering, one dare not disobey,\" so the pilot attempts to draw a sheep.Gradually the little prince reveals his story. He comes from a small asteroid, where he lives alone until a rose grows there. But the rose is demanding, and he is confused by his feelings about her.Eventually he decides to leave, and journey to other planets in search of knowledge. After meeting many confusing adults, he eventually lands on Earth, where he befriends a snake and a fox.The fox helps him to understand the rose, and the snake offers to help him return to his planet -- but at a price. From my point of view, The Little Prince is not simply a fairy tale, but a philosophical novel. The author reveals the absurdity of the civilized world through the eyes of the little prince, who has a pure heart and a true world.

III.My Views on The Little Prince

The use of the symbols makes the story full of meanings and more vivid.Firstly, the setting is in the Desert of Sahara. As for me, desert is pure land in some way, not yet the invasion of the modern civilization.Only in such a place, can love, responsibility and the human nature be revealed fully.Secondly, the first creature the little prince encountered was the snake. In the west, the snake represents mystery and power. In the story, the snake is “more powerful than the finger of a king” and has the prophet for everything. The snake thought the prince was “innocent and true” while “this earth made of granite”, so finally it sent the little prince back to his planet. What the snake said tell the darkne and evil of the human, the little prince is not suitable to live in such a place.Thirdly, the choice of the fox is also meaningful. In people’s eyes, the fox is always filled with wisdom. In the story, the fox is just like a philosopher, giving the prince advice and inspiring him to understand the meaning of love, the responsibilities for his rose, and the difference between “alike” and “unique”.The fox told the little prince his secret: “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is eential is invisible to the eye”, but “the men have forgotten this truth”.The words satires the ignorance of human beings who do not even know the true eence of love and friendship.Meanwhile, it reminds us that we should be responsible for our love, to be true.In the story, it describes the people such as the king, the conceited man, the tippler, the busineman and so on.They represent all manner of man in the earth with their own symbolic meanings. The story is made up of philosophical sentences, from which we can gain a good deal of enlightenment.I will take some as examples. In chapter 17, the snake told the prince “It is also lonely among men”.As for me, nowadays people is becoming busy and ambitious, they no longer have time to care about others, even their friends just for pursuing their own goals. We can see the alienation between them.It reminds me of the masterpiece Moby Dick written by Herman Melville.Because of the alienation between man and man, they can not unite together, which lead to a tragedy in the end.In chapter 10, the king said:”You shall judge yourself that is the most difficult thing of all.It is much more difficult to judge oneself than to judge others. If you succeed in judging yourself rightly, then you are indeed a man of true wisdom”.I can not agree it more.As Plato said:”know yourself”, which is a important principle for us to live.It is of great importance to know who we are, what we have done and for what.Only if we can truly know ourselves, can we make the right choice, not blind for seeking for something meaningle. As the lamplighter said, “It is impoible for a man to be faithful and lazy at the same time.” This sentence illustrates the old saying” You can’t have your cake and eat it too”, things are always like that, admittedly, human is greedy sometimes.

The Little Prince almost covers all aspects of life, including friendship, love, responsibilities, freedom and so on.It can be said as a guidance for a better life, better society. We’d better be childish in our deep heart and soul.

I have read some books this term. The one which impreed me most is .I brought this book last term. The book consists of three versions: French, Chinese and English.I read Chinese version first, which made my second read in English much easier.I’m not going to talk about the fairy tale’s writing skills, writing style and what philosophy it contains.Instead, I will pick out several sentences which moved me a lot and then show my feeling. In part 4, there is “Not everyone has had a friend.” And later, in part 17, there’s “It’s also lonely with people.”

The two sentences nearly have the same meaning.A true friend is of a lifetime. You may say that: “I have a lot of friends, and we always play together and chat together……” But in fact, friends are not those whom you always stay with.Friends can be away from your daily life, can be out of connection for a long time, but they understand what you do and what you say all the time. You never feel embarraed when you stay with your friends and even say no words. In part 8, the little prince: “He had taken seriously certain inconsequential remarks and had grown very unhappy.” It’s the same to us.We are too concerned about what others say to do what we really want to.Nowadays, we seems to care more about other people than ourselves. When you have bought a dre you thought was beautiful, someone says that: “ Oh, it is not suitable for you.” Gue what, you will not wear the dre any more even if it is new.In part 18, the flower had seen a caravan paing: “The wind blows them away. They have no roots, which hampers them a good deal.” The sentence seems ridiculous, however, makes me think a lot.For human being, roots mean spirit belief. There’s someone saying that: “One nation won’t be destroyed as long as it has belief.” Here, I want to mention Jewry. No matter how much hardship it went through, it never give up its struggling.I have seen a photo: an old Jewish woman holds a book and reads it seriously even though she is in the ruin after one battle.I admire this nation, and at the same time, I worry about our nation.Maybe it has belief which I don’t notice. It couldn’t be denied that we are becoming more and more fickle and materialistic. We are losing our spiritual belief gradually.Read more and search for one spiritual holy land.In part 21, the fox tells the little prince : “It’s the time you spent on your rose that makes you rose so important.” I love this sentence most.I think of people’s dream.Perhaps in others’ eyes, our dreams are insignificant. They always discourage us.But what we should know is that only if you devote to your dream, your dream id unique. You yourself is the master of your dream. At last, I want to take the author’s word as the ending: All grown-ups were children first (But few of them remember it).If only we all remember it.

Catherine leaves and drops by to inform her nephew on Elizabeth\'s abominable behaviour. However, this lends hope to Darcy that Elizabeth\'s opinion of him may have changed. He travels to Longbourn and proposes again; and now Elizabeth accepts.

Four youth finally find their true love and marry them. The narrative meets the happy ending.

Pride and Prejudice are two common weak points usually seen in our daily life.Humans are easily be trapped by the appearance of the thing .Different claes with the discrepancy of wealth have their social disease-the upper cla with good wealth sometimes behave indifferent to the poor and pride of themselves, while the poor form a prejudice to the upper cla in order to protect their self -esteems.

A Book Report of The Old Man and the Sea

Exactly, it’s a story of an epic struggle between an old, seasoned fisherman and the greatest catch of his life.Leading character Santiago, an aged Cuban fisherman, has set out to sea and returned empty-handed.At first 84 days, he did not even fish one fish.He did not have enough food, and many locals to doubt his fishing technique. Some even laugh at him.So, He decided to go to the sea to fish food and proved that he is a skilled fisherman. On the eight-fifth day of his unlucky streak, Santiago does as promised, sailing his skiff far beyond the island’s shallow coastal waters and venturing into the Gulf Stream. At noon, a big fish, marlin, take the bait that Santiago has placed before.Although the old man expertly hooks the fish, but he cannot pull it in.Instead, the fish begins to pull the boat.He knows perfectly well very difficult to win, but still did not give up.Since then, they began their three-day fighting. The entire time, Santiago, endures constant pain from the fishing line.Eventually, the third day, the fish tires, and Santiago manages to pull the marlin in close enough to kill it with a harpoon thrust. However, things do not go smoothly as he expected. On his way home, he is attacked buy several crowds of shark.Although he kills the sharks in the end, they have devoured the marlin’s precious meat, leaving only skeleton. The old man arrives home before daybreak, and sleeps very deeply.Later on, the old man wakes up and finds the little boy Mandolin staying with him, and decides to go to sea to fish again.

In fact, the story contains many different symbols and themes .By reading this book, I was deeply impreed by the old man and what he said “a man can be destroyed but not defeated.” Santiago, though destroyed at the end of the novella, is never defeated.Instead, he emerges as a hero.Santiago’s struggle does not enable him to change man’s place in the world. But the struggle somehow enables him to meet his most dignified destiny. The old man sets a good example for us.He teachers us that we should fight and never lose faith, never give up.No matter how hard the life is, it’s poible for us to overcome the difficulties.

“to be, or not to be- that is the question”(生存还是毁灭,这是一个值得考虑的问题),这是我读完《哈姆雷特》后感觉最为经典的一句话。

II.Summary The story shows the British society\'s life at that time by describing the marriage problems. It mainly describes the love story of Bennet ’s several daughters.Mr.Bingley is newly from London and falls in love with the biggest daughter, Jane. His friend Darcy is sweet upon the second daughter Elizabeth, but their marriage moves slowly for some reasons. After a range of interesting troubles, the misunderstandings are finally removed. With Darcy overcomes his pride, and Elizabeth overcomes her prejudice, they get together finally.By describing different marriages, Austin exprees her opinions of the marriage which insist on the understanding to each other. To a certain extent, this novel also reflects the wish for the independent marriage for women at that time.

Mr.Bennet is an English gentleman living in Hertfordshire with his overbearing wife. The Bennets 5 daughters: the beautiful Jane, the clever Elizabeth, the bookish Mary, the immature Kitty and the wild Lydia.Unfortunately for the Bennets, if Mr.Bennet dies their house will be inherited by a distant cousin whom they have never met, so the family\'s future happine and security are dependent on the daughters making good marriages.

Life is uneventful until the arrival in the neighborhood of the rich gentleman Mr.Bingley, who rents a large house so he can spend the summer in the country.Mr.Bingley brings with him his sister and his friend Mr.Darcy.One night, at a dancing party, Mr.Bingley is well-received in the community; but Mr.Darcy is very proud and indifferent to other people. Mr.Bingley falls in love with Jane immediately, and so does Jane.Mr.Bingley and Jane Bennet begin to grow close relationship despite Mrs.Bennet\'s interference and the opposition of Bingley\'s sister.Because of Mr.Darcy’s pride, Elizabeth is stung by his haughty rejection of her and decides to match his coldne with her own wit.Sometime later, Mr.Darcy begins to develop interests in Elizabeth. At another dancing party, Mr.Darcy invites Elizabeth to dance only to be refused.Mr.Darcy is in a difficult position. At the same time

Elizabeth begins a friendship with Mr.Wickham, a militia officer who relates a prior acquaintance with Darcy.Wickham tells her that he has been seriously mistreated by Darcy.Elizabeth immediately seizes upon this information as another reason to hate Darcy. Bingley\'s sister has pursuit Mr.Darcy for a long time, but when she finds that Mr.Darcy is fond of Elizabeth. The anger makes her prevent the development of their relationship. In addition, Mr.Darcy also dislikes Elizabeth’s mother and sisters for their vulgarism. Finally, Mr.Bingley leaves London under the persuasion of his sister and Mr.Darcy.Before Bingley leaves, Mr.Collins, the male relative who is to inherit Longbourn, makes a sudden appearance and stays with the Bennets. He is a recently ordained clergyman employed by the wealthy and patronizing Lady Catherine de Bourgh.Collins has another reason for visiting: he wishes to find a wife from among the Bennet sisters.Mr.Bennet and Elizabeth are amused by his self-important and pedantic behavior. He immediately enters pursuit of Jane; however, when Mrs.Bennet mentions her preoccupation with Mr.Bingley, he turns to Elizabeth. He soon proposes marriage to Elizabeth, only to be refused again.Collins quickly recovers and proposes to Elizabeth\'s close friend, Charlotte Lucas, who immediately accepts him.Once the marriage is arranged, Charlotte asks Elizabeth to come for an extended visit.

In the spring, Elizabeth joins Charlotte and her cousin at his parish in Kent. The parish is adjacent to Rosings Park, the grand manor of Mr.Darcy\'s aunt, Lady Catherine de Bourgh, where Elizabeth frequently invites. While calling on Lady Catherine, Mr.Darcy encounters Elizabeth. She discovers from a cousin of Darcy that it is he who separates Bingley and Jane.Soon after, Darcy admits his love of Elizabeth and proposes to her.Insulted by his high-handed and insulting manner of proposing, Elizabeth refuses him. When he asks why she should refuse him, she tells him the story of Bingley and Jane, furthermore, she also takes Mr.Wickham’s story as an example to blame Mr.Darcy.

Deeply shaken by Elizabeth\'s vehemence and accusations, Darcy writes her a letter justifying his actions and decides to change himself. In the letter, he says that it is Wickham who uses up all the legacy-settlement. As for Bingley and Jane, Darcy justifies his actions from having observed that Jane does not show any reciprocal interest in his friend; thus his aim in separating them is mainly to protect Bingley from heartache.Darcy admits he is concerned about the disadvantageous connection with Elizabeth\'s family, especially her embarraing mother and wild younger sisters.

After reading the letter, Elizabeth begins to question both her family\'s behaviors and Wickham\'s credibility; she concludes that Wickham is not as trustworthy as his easy manners would indicate, and that her early impreions of Darcy may not have been accurate.Soon after receiving the letter Elizabeth returns home. Some months later, during a tour of Derbyshire with her aunt and uncle, Elizabeth visits Darcy\'s estate. There they meet again, and Darcy is different from before. He becomes friendly and modest, which leaves Elizabeth a good impreion. Some good things happening between Darcy and Elizabeth when news arrives that Elizabeth\'s younger sister Lydia has run away with Wickham.Elizabeth is convinced that Darcy will be angry with her. However, Darcy does the opposite thing. With the help of Darcy, Lydia and Wickham are found and married.Bingley and Jane are together after a lot of hardships in the end, but Darcy’s aunt Lady Catherine travels to Longbourn with the sole aim of confronting Elizabeth and demanding that she never accepts such a proposal of marries Darcy.Elizabeth refuses to bow to Lady Catherine\'s demands. When the news reaches Darcy, it convinces him that her opinion of him has changed. When he visits, he once again proposes marriage.Elizabeth accepts, and the two become engaged. In the end, all the people in the novel are happy, and this is the happy ending.

III.Comments

In my opinion, this book is an illustration of the society at that time.It perfectly reflects the relation between money and marriage at her time and gives the people in her works vivid characters. The characters have their own personalities. The most important part of the novel is the love story between Elizabeth and Darcy.Elizabeth is a smart and beautiful girl born in a middle cla family who is persistent and brave in the pursuit of love. The story’s spread leads on Elizabeth’s feeling to Darcy: from detestation to admiration and then love.In addition, other people’s happine also appears during this period of time.Jane Austen writes this for the purpose of showing the thinking of the women’s love, marriage and expectation at that time.

Now let me talk something about the marriage in the novel briefly.Elizabeth and Darcy’s marriage is based on both money and love, and love is more important. This is the perfect marriage. The only purpose of Collins and Lucas’ marriage is pursuit.Only by

marrying someone can Lucas feels safety.Jane and Bingley’s marriage is based on beauty and money. This is also a kind of good marriage. They will be happy.Lydia and Wickham’s marriage is only based on paion. They only care about the appearance. We can image whether their life will happy or not.Jane Austen thinks that it is wrong for people to marry for money and social statues; on the other hand, she also disagrees to the marriage regardle of the former aspects. So Jane Austen calls on the reasonable marriage, and the marriage should be based on love.

In modern society, although the marriages of economic needs have decreased rapidly, the concept of “money determines everything” is still rooted in some people’s mind.A lot of parents try hard to interfere their children’s marriages.Education background, poeions, jobs remain the main reason that may influence one’s marriage.Marrying for money is still a big problem in our society. We can’t help thinking: can money determine everything? Austen left this problem for us to think. The genius of Jane Austen lies in this perfect simplicity, and the simplicity that reflects big problems.Although Austen was only 21 when she wrote “Pride and Prejudice”, her sharp observation of social lives makes the style of this book surprisingly mature and lively. The plots in her works are always very natural. The development of the plot is as inevitable as a problem in mathematics.I think the depth of Pride and Prejudice is the reason that makes this book prominent and claic.Today, her book still can be the guide telling us the economic relationships both at her time and in modern time.I really learn a lot from the book, which makes me think a lot.It is one of the best books that I have ever read.Furthermore, I think it is one of the best books that have ever been written. The reason that I have such feelings maybe I really read too few books. So, there are still many wonderful books in front of me waiting to be read.

Keep reading, keep moving.

5.Preparation and Lithium Uptake Properties of Lithium Ion Sieve Derived from Spinel-type Manganese Oxide

6.Research Progre of Lithium Extraction from Seawater and Brines by Ion—Sieve Adsorption Method

7.Research Progre of Lithium Extraction from Seawater and Brines by Ion—Sieve Adsorption Method

8.The Preparation of Lithium Ionic Sieve And Performance Research

9.Preparation,Properties and Applications of Lithium Manganese Oxides and Their Lithium Ion-Sieves

10.Research Progre on Lithium Manganese Oxide Ion-Sieve

11.The Research Progre in Structure and Doped Lithium Manganese Oxide

12.The Preparation of Lithium Adsorption Material and The Research of Its Adsorption Performance 以此为锰源合成出锂离子筛前驱体Li1.6Mn1.604,经酸洗后得到锂离子筛H1.6Mn1.604。

27.45x102mg/cm2。 13.The Research Progre in Manganese Oxide Lithium Ionic Sieve

14.Sol-gel Synthesis of Spinel Manganese Oxide Lithium Ionic Sieve and The Research of Its Adsorption Capabilities

15.Preparation of Three-Dimensionally Ordered Macroporous HAlMnO4 Lithium Ion-Sieveand Its Adsorption Properties

16.Preparation of Three-Dimensionally Ordered Macroporous Ion Sieve Derived from Spinel-type Manganese Oxide And Its Adsorption Properties

17.Synthesis and Applications of Manganese oxides with Tunnel Structure

18.Synthesis the Adsorbent for Extracting Lithium and Research on the Adsorption Proce

19.Research on Delamination and Application of Inorganic Layered Compounds

20.Synthesis the Lithium Ionic Sieve Precursor LiMn204 of Spinel Structure and Its Characteristics 本文以Li2CO3和MnO2(EMD)为原料.

A Book Report of The Old Man and the Sea The Old Man and the Sea is a novel written by Ernest Hemingway, an American novelist. The story is set in the 20th century after World War II, which is based on the novel written true story Hemingway himself has experienced.

Exactly, it’s a story of an epic struggle between an old, seasoned fisherman and the greatest catch of his life. Leading character Santiago, an aged Cuban fisherman, has set out to sea and returned empty-handed.At first 84 days, he did not even fish one fish.He did not have enough food, and many locals to doubt his fishing technique. The old man sets a good example for us.He teachers us that we

should fight and never lose faith, never give up.No matter how hard the life is, it’s poible for us to overcome the difficulties.

简介

The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway\'s most enduring works.Told in language of great simplicity and power,it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman, down on his luck, and his supreme ordeal——a relentle, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. Here Hemingway recasts,in strikingly contemporary style, the claic thene of courage in the face of defeat,of personal triumph won from los.Written in 1952,this hugely succefully novella confirmed his power and presence in the literary world and played a huge part in his

winning the 1954 Nobel Prize for Literature.

Ernest Hemingway The Old Man and the Sea may very well become one of the true claics of this generation.Certainly, the qualities of Ernest Hemingway\'s short novel are those which we aociate with many great stories of the past: near perfection of form within the limitations of its subject matter, restraint of treatment, regard for the unities of time and place, and evocative simplicity of style. Also, like most great stories, it can be read on more than one level of meaning. On one it is an exciting but tragic adventure story.Sustained by the pride of his calling, the only pride he has left, a broken old fisherman ventures far out into the Gulf Stream and there hooks the biggest marlin ever seen in those waters. Then, alone and exhausted by his struggle to harpoon the giant fish, he is forced into a losing battle with marauding sharks; they leave him nothing but the skeleton of his catch. On another level the book is a fable of the unconquerable spirit of man, a creature capable of snatching spiritual victory from circumstances of disaster and material defeat. On still another it is a parable of religious significance, its theme supported by the writer\'s unobtrusive handling of Christian symbols and metaphors.Like Coleridge\'s Ancient Mariner, Hemingway\'s Cuban fisherman is a character allowing the imagination of his creator to operate simultaneously in two different worlds of meaning and value, the one real and dramatic, the other moral and devotionally symbolic.

For eighty four days old Santiago had not caught a single fish.At first a young boy, Manolin, had shared his bad fortune, but after the fortieth luckle day the boy\'s father told his son to go in another boat. From that

time on Santiago worked alone. Each morning he rowed his skiff out into the Gulf Stream where the big fish were. Each evening he came in empty-handed.

The boy loved the old fisherman and pitied him.If Manolin had no money of his own, he begged or stole to make sure that Santiago had enough to eat and fresh baits for his lines. The old man accepted his kindne with humility that was like a quiet kind of pride.Over their evening meals of rice or black beans they would talk about the fish they had taken in luckier times or about American baseball and the great DiMaggio. At night, alone in his shack, Santiago dreamed of lions on the beaches of Africa, where he had gone on a sailing ship years before. He no longer dreamed of his dead wife.

On the eighty-fifth day Santiago rowed out of the harbor in the cool dark before dawn. After leaving the smell of land behind him, he set his lines. Two of his baits were fresh tunas the boy had given him, as well as sardines to cover his hooks. The lines went straight down into deep dark water.

As the sun rose he saw other boats in toward shore, which was only a low green line on the sea.A hovering man-of-war bird showed him where dolphin were chasing some flying fish, but the school was moving too fast and too far away. The bird circled again. This time Santiago saw tuna leaping in the sunlight.A small one took the hook on his stern line.Hauling the quivering fish aboard, the old man thought it a good omen.Toward noon a marlin started nibbling at the bait which was one hundred fathoms down.Gently the old man played the fish, a big one, as he knew from the weight on the line.At last he struck to settle the hook. The fish did not surface.Instead, it began to tow the skiff to the northwest. The old man braced himself, the line taut acro his shoulders.Although he was alone and no longer strong, he had his skill and knew many tricks. He waited patiently for the fish to tire.

The old man shivered in the cold that came after sunset. When something took one of his remaining baits, he cut the line with his sheath knife.Once the fish lurched suddenly, pulling Santiago forward on his face and cutting his cheek.By dawn his left hand was stiff and cramped. The fish had headed northward; there was no land in sight.Another strong tug on the line sliced Santiago\'s right hand.Hungry, he cut strips from the tuna

and chewed them slowly while he waited for the sun to warm him and ease his cramped fingers. That morning the fish jumped.Seeing it leap, Santiago knew he had hooked the biggest marlin he had even seen. Then the fish went under and turned toward the east.Santiago drank sparingly from his water bottle during the hot afternoon.Trying to forget his cut hand and aching back, he remembered the days when men had called him Campeon and he had wrestled with a giant Negro in the tavern at Cienfuegos.Once an airplane droned overhead on its way to Miami.

Close to nightfall a dolphin took the small hook he had rebaited. He lifted the fish aboard, careful not to jerk the line over his shoulder. After he had rested, he cut fillets from the dolphin and kept also the two flying fish he found in its maw. That night he slept. He awoke to feel the line running through his fingers as the fish jumped.Feeding line slowly, he tried to tire the marlin. After the fish slowed its run.he washed his cut hands in sea water and ate one of the flying fish.At sunrise the marlin began to circle.Faint and dizzy, he worked to bring the big fish nearer with each turn.Almost exhausted, he finally drew his catch alongside and drove in the harpoon. He drank a little water before he lashed the marlin to bow and stern of his skiff. The fish was two feet longer than the boat.No catch like it had ever been seen in Havana harbor. It would make his fortune, he thought, as he hoisted his patched sails and set his course toward the southwest.

An hour later he sighted the first shark. It was a fierce Mako, and it came in fast to slash with raking teeth at the dead marlin. With failing might the old man struck the shark with his harpoon. The Mako rolled and sank, carrying the harpoon with it and leaving the marlin mutilated and bloody.Santiago knew the scent would spread.Watching, he saw two shovel nosed sharks closing in.He struck at one with his knife lashed to the end of an oar and watched the scavenger sliding down into deep water. The other he killed while it tore at the flesh of the marlin. When the third appeared, he thrust at it with the knife, only to feel the blade snap as the fish rolled. The other sharks came at sunset. At first he tried to club them with the tiller from the skiff, but his hands were raw and bleeding and there were too many in the pack.In the darkne, as he steered toward the faint glow of Havana against the sky, he heard them hitting the carca again and again. But the old man thought only of his steering and his great tiredne. He had gone out too far and the sharks had beaten him.He knew they would leave him nothing but the stripped skeleton of his great catch.

All lights were out when he sailed into the little harbor and beached his skiff. In the gloom he could just make out the white backbone and the upstanding tail of the fish.he started up the shore with the mast and furled sail of his boat.Once he fell under their weight and lay patiently until he could gather his strength. In his shack he fell on his bed and went to sleep.

There the boy found him later that morning.Meanwhile other fishermen, gathered about the skiff, marveled at the giant marlin, eighteen feet long from nose to tail. When Manolin returned to Santiago\'s shack with hot coffee, the old man awoke. The boy, he said, could have the spear of his fish.Manolin told him to rest, to make himself fit for the days of fishing they would have together. All that afternoon the old man slept, the boy sitting by his bed.Santiago was dreaming of lions.— Excerpts from Masterpieces of World Literature in Digest Form

A Report on Wuthering Heights

In Wuthering Heights (John Murray edition,1910), Emily Bronte tells the story of love and revenge.Wuthering Heights is written by the time span of thirty years, describes a complex emotional relationships of two generations between the Earnshaw family and Linton family.

Heathcliff was a poor gipsy orphan who was deserted on a dirty street. The old kind Mr.Earnshaw took him back and brought him up.Mr.Earnshaw had a beautiful daughter, Catherine Earnshaw, and a son, Hindley. After Heathcliff’s coming to the family, Catherine became his good friend while Hindley always looked down upon the black-haired boy, treated him badly, and tired his best to make him a poor dull farm worker.Because of Heathcliff’s lowly status, he couldn’t offer a comfortable life to Catherine and at last she married Edgar.Linton, a rich young man living in Thrushcro Grange.

The whole novel can be divided into four parts. The first phase describes the daily life of Heathcliff and Catherine’s childhood, their special affection is formed in this particular environment as well as their revolt against the tyrannical Hindley. The second phase focuses on the Catherine pursuit of the traditional of human love and betrayed Heathcliff and she became the mistre of thrush. She admitted to Donnelly that her love to Linton who is young, handsome man.He loves her as well as her wealth, let her to become the most distinguished woman.Catherine has said:”In my heart and soul, I clearly know I was wrong.” Because she also loves Heathcliff. The third phase uses a large pen and ink describing Heathcliff’s revenge. The last part of novel is the death of Heathcliff but revealed a new change in the thinking experience-the recovery of humanity when he understood the love between Hareton and Catherine, so we can see a bunch a hope in the tragic love story.

My love for Linton is like the foliage in the woods; time will change it.I\'m well aware, as winter changes the trees. My love for Heathcliff resembles the eternal rocks beneath a source of little visible delight, but neceary.Nell, I am Heathcliff! He\'s always always in my mind; not as a pleasure, any ore than I am always a pleasure to myself, but as my own being.

Love ,when it was paionate, it was sun, rain and sugar;but when itwasn’t paionate, it became a sharp arrow, the deeper you loved, the worse scar you would had.As for a person who had already got hurt badly, love can be a dealcohol agent, which can worn him to be cautious before fall in love again. However, even though it can not be able to prevent the coming of love, until it break all the fantasy of love into pieces one more time.I don’t know exactly how many people died for love, but I believe that most of them had decided to keep alive eventually. They continued to be living, til the time smooth the painful memory.Once think about that one day, all of us well be vanished in the memory of the person who we loved before. What a terrible thing !

I cannot expre it; but surely you and everybody have a notion that there is or should be an existence of yours beyond you. What were the use of my creation, if I were entirely contained

here? My great miseries in this world have been Heathcliff\'s miseries, and I watched and felt each from the beginning:my great thought in living is himself. If all else perished, and he remained, I should still continue to be; and if all else remained, and he were annihilated, the universe would turn to a mighty stranger: I should not seem a part of it.My love for Linton is like the foliage in the woods: time will change it, I\'m well aware, as winter changes the trees. My love for Heathcliff resembles the eternal rocks beneath: a source of little visible delight, but neceary.Nelly, I am Heathcliff! He\'s always, always in my mind: not as a pleasure, any more than I am always a pleasure to myself, but as my own being. So don\'t talk of our separation again.

As long as you keep alive, you have to deal with all kinds of things, until these confused things fall the first memory into oblivion, make the life return to the peaceful status, and make you hope for nothing. In my idea, if a person can live by memory and revenge like Heathcliff , we can really count it as a life of luxury.

At present, I am listening the song named Where Did You Sleep Last Night, I descend into the dark and hysterical. It remind me of Heathcliff who looks like a grim people but has the most paionate love inside.

Maybe, I love his arbitrary, his unreasonable, especially his hysterical, stubborn.Once you love someone, you become extraordinarily stubborn, be so poeive of her, even be a ma of bruises, you still never let go.The stronger to surface, the weaker to inside.I want to hug the grim Heathcliff, have you ever saw the tears slipped along his face in the hopele darkne.

If during my lifetime, I have the opportunity to have a love like this, I think I will not try to deny.

Compare Jane Eyre with Wuthering Heights, I didn’t find any differences on the expreion of love.If there is a difference, I think Wuthering Heignts voices that I love more, hate more, and more painful. This kind of love has reached to their limitation,it will bring no more than crazy and devastation. For two people who love each other with great paion, We,Human,You,Outside can be nothing, because they are the Universe for each other.

Emily Bronte merely lived thirty years, I don’t know her experience. But I think she was burned by the paion and despair, and maybe this is a happy thing for her.

篇3:简爱 世界名著 全英文读后感 全英文读书笔记 英语专业 大学 本科 feelings of reading jane eyre useful expreion 1) [useful expreion] (p.47) if all the world hated you, and believed you wicked, while your own conscience approved you, and absolved you from guilt, you would not be without friends. 2) [useful expreion] (p.231) prejudices, it is well known, as most difficult to eradicate from the heart whose soil has never been loosened or fertilized by education: they grow there, firm as weeds among stones. 3) [useful expreion] (p.40) life appears to me too short to be spent in nursing animosity or registering wrongs. the type of materials in this book is written in english, and the topic area is literature.i spent reading the book for 2 months. in the world history of literature, some many claical famous works are going to be immortal, but jane eyre deeply enters peoples soul deeply, it by irresistible intrinsic deep has attracted the tens of thousands of readers deeply, has affected peoples inner world, is in the world history of literature the eternal claics.

Wuthering Heights ——Revenge

Well, before I begin my part, I would like to ask you a question that is if you hate a person a lot, what will you do? Keep silence? Talk about your feelings with the person immediately and try to solve the problem? Or hurt the person to expre your anger? Or deal with it in other ways? Who can give me you’re an answer? Now let’s come back to our novel. What did the hero, Heathcliff do when he had extreme hatred? He chose to revenge. Then in the following part, I’ll begin with the revenge in Wuthering Heights.Later on, I’d like to talk about some other related things about revenge.

First, let’s see the revenge in the novel. We know that Heathcliff lives in an abnormal way.People around despised this ‘evil gypsy’.When his beloved Catherine married the gentleman, Edger Linton, for wealth and reputation, Heathcliff’s heart broke completely. His hatred towards Hindley and the Lintons became stronger. When Catherine died, Heathcliff was like an active volcano, boom!

Heathcliff had a careful plan to revenge. In his generation, I’d like to mainly say something about his marriage with Isabella. This action is the key step to take over the property of the Lintons.and vexed Edger mentally.Just as Isabella’s angry words ‘Whatever he may pretend, he wishes to provoke Edger to desperation; he says he has married me on purpose to obtain power over him…’Also, we can consider it his revenge to Catherine. He knew Catherine’s deep love towards him.He knew his marriage would hurt Catherine in the same way that she hurt him.The joy of revenge and the sorrow of love mixed together to become a very complicated feeling.Indeed, Heathcliff is such a complicated character. It’s not difficult to imagine his fierce inter struggles.Meanwhile, Heathcliff abused his wife, Isabella, as a sort of amusement. As he himself pointed out, his abuse of Isabella is purely sadistic, as he amuses himself by seeing how much abuse she can take and still come cringing back for more.According to a modern study, a lot of criminals were lack of love. They get apathy even hatred from the society. If the seeds of enmity are planted in people’s hearts when they were kids, how can we expect these people to be friendly and kind? What goes around comes around.H is a typical character. When hatred gets its foothold in his soul, his choice is revenge. When we are shocked by H’s violence, we can feel a little bit sadne, too.

Although maybe we can consider Hindley Earshaw and the Lintos Heathcliff’s enemy, it’s none of their children’s busine, right? We always say that the children are innocent. But Heathcliff could not stop the mad beast called revenge from extending its reach to the next generation.‘…I want the triumph of seeing…my child hiring their children to till their father’s land for wages.’ What a terrible and poor man! Because his own life is miserable, he wanted to let the next generation suffer from what he has suffered. He used to say to the five years old boy, Hindley’s son, Hareton: ‘Now, my bonny lad, you are mine! And we’ll see if one tree won’t grow as crooked as another, with the same wind to twist it!’ It’s the sort of thing that can be done by the demon.Heathcliff did make the boy as his own duplicate and ruined the boy. Will you be as lowly as a maid or a servant in you own house? It sounds quite ridiculous!1

But in a matter of fact, Hareton did so.Thanks to Mr.Heathcliff, he gave Hareton the very precious chance to experience such an unusual life.As we known, loving our own children is human’s nature. But it is not right for Heathcliff.Hatred blinded his eyes.In order to revenge, he could make use of his own son and watched him die in the end.As for Catherine Linton, the creature became a poor widow. She and Heraton loved each other but couldn’t get together because they were under devil Heathcliff’s control.Heathcliff abandoned everything and used all kinds of ways to reach his destination—revenge.Back to back tragedies were made, tragedies of the Earshaws, the Lintons and himself.

Now clamates, we can come out of Wuthering Heights for a moment.Next, I’ll tell you a mythology.

Once upon a time, there was a charming prince called Medea. She owned the power of magic. Her peaceful life would go on if Jason, one of the Greece heroes, had not appeared.Jason came there to get the Golden Fleece (the wool from a golden sheep), the symbol of a pricele treasure.Medea fell in love with him.She helped Jason get the Golden Fleece and betrayed her father and her own country and ran away with Jason. In order to get rid of the chase, Medea killed her brother and cut his body into pieces. After Medea and Jason settled down, Medea gave birth to two sons. But it’s not the happy ending. The king of the country wanted Jason to marry his daughter. Then Jason abandoned Medea who loved him and helped him a lot.He married the prince because of the wealth and the power.Medea was extremely sad and angry. She gave the prince a beautiful dre which contained poison. With out knowing the truth, the bride put it on.Obviously, the bride died. The king cried and held his dear daughter tightly in his arms.He also died because he touched the poison. But to Medea, it was far from enough. She killed her own sons in front of Jason.Though the father pleaded to ki his sons’ bodies for the last time, Medea refused him coldly. She flew away with her dead sons and her broken heart.Jason was left alone. He had lost everything. Finally, he ended his life with the sword. Thus, Medea became the godde of revenge.

After finishing the story, we can find that Heathcliff and Medea have a lot in common. Both of them had strong love and hatred. The most important thing is when they were treated by unfair things and betrayed by lovers, they chose to revenge: Heathcliff took steps to get all the property of the two families; Medea killed all the related people to pay back to Jason. To some extent, the revenge showed their rebellious spirit.Heathcliff and Medea didn’t comply with the unfair fate. They changed from victims to avengers. When we are shocked by the avengers, we feel pity at the same time. However, there is difference between Medea and Heathcliff. What’s the difference then? One is woman and the other is man? Of course not.The real difference is: it’s a total tragedy that Medea destroyed everything including herself; as for Heathcliff, although he lived most of his life with hatred and revenge, he gave up his revenge to the next generation, Heraton and Catherine. It’s a kind of revival of humanity.A moment later, my partner, Cathy, will analyze the revival of humanity to you.Today we talked much about the revenge, and I do hope the more we know the revenge, the more we value the harmony and the peace.Thank you!

3:book report-one hundred years of solitude one hundred years of solitude this book was writed by gabriel garcía márquez, latin-american journalist, novelist and short story writer, a central figure in the so-called magic realism movement.he is considered one of the most significant authors of the 20th century.he was awarded the nobel prize in literature in 1982, and is the earliest winner of this prize to be still alive.one hundred years of solitude is an epic work: a long narrative fiction with a scope which holds up for our inspection a particular cultural moment in the history of a people.the novel is the history of the founding, development, and death of a human settlement, macondo, and of the most important family in that town, the buendias. reading though one hundred years of solitude, im impreed by the novels contact structure and in-depth description of humans character.the roles in the novel are so naive and primitive that the book reads like a magic show with a colorful background, and a bit childish.maybe i am at a very late age reading the novel. his is a story without love but yet romantic.everyone is using their own approach to resist solitude - participating in the revolution, repeating manual labour, addicting to lust and sex, reading and translating books......this book contains the all poible ways for human to resist solitude.t篇4:百年孤独读书报告

起初,那些身处保守小镇中的人们,以自己固步自封,墨守陈年旧俗,甚至于很多泯灭人性的落后风俗,远远落后于外界文明社会的先进文化;

1、勇敢,敢于挣脱桎梏;

1、诸多落后的习俗阻碍人们的正常生活;

2、具有创新精神;

2、吉卜赛人新进文明的启发;

3、革命精神(及其儿子);

4、孤独性;

(一) 领导族人开拓新的家园;

(二) 改革封建陋习;

(三) 学习先进科学技术,给人们的生活注入新的生机;

(一) 被族人推举为领袖人物;

(二) 一些先进技术也给自己带来了商机与财富;

人民群众是历史的创造者,但就具体个人而言,却是分散的不能完成重大历史事件,而英雄人物凭借其社会影响力来完成重大历史事件;

Pride and Prejudice is the story of four marriages in British country of 18th century.Jane Austen shows the pictures of the current social life in Britain through the marriage matter, it also reflects her views on marriage. The book describes the

(207 Words)

IV.Comments on the book

1.What are the strengths and weaknees of the book? (≥50words)

Although Austen’s theme is narrow, the story is quite dull, but she is good at

shape distinctive characters in ordinary daily things.Whether Elizabeth and Darcy that the author thinks should be positive character, or Collins this kind of being the object of sarcasm, she presents themin a real way.At the same time, Austin’s language is after temper, she in a dialogue art exquisite humor, satire, often with funny witty language to foil character\'s personality. This kind of artistic

With the revealing of the truth, Elizabeth’s prejudice on Darcy becomes deeper.Until when Elizabeth refuses Darcy’s long love letter, she experiences the fierce shock. After undergoing a period of painful and profound thought, she could not help but to shout how despicable she is。When we see the blame from heart, we find her

shortcomings and the courage that she could face herself directly. It is her bringing that plays a role; she starts to give up the bias caused by self-esteem, truly and seriously understand Darcy.Elizabeth wouldn\'t believe the shamele lies about

Darcy said by Han and eliminate the misunderstanding and prejudice. She finally falls in love with Darcy.

Is the writing effective, powerful, difficult, or beautiful? (≥50words)

I think it is helpful .The different treatments and attitudes towards these marriages reflect Jane Austen’s views on marriage. It’s wrong for marriage to pursue property,

money and high status. She strees the importance of an ideal marriage and takes the feelings of both men and women as the cornerstone of the ideal marriage. We also learn that pride and prejudice are the very common problems and weaknees in human’s personality.Everyone is easy to be driven by their own subjective

consciousne or other people’s wrong comments. It may cause a misunderstanding toward a thing or a person. What we should do is to avoid these weaknees and make them under good regulation.Everything must be based on objective sense and commented with a deeper understanding.

century, women were not well respected compared with the ones in the present society. There was no equality.between woman and man.Women were

considered to be inferior to men in terms of intelligence and capacity. Now

through this book I find the courage to show ourselves.

What did you learn about yourself as a result of reading this book? (≥50words) Thank you .after reading your book I form a positive attitiud to the marrige.now, I thinklove and marriage only by appreciating the marriage founded on the basis of mutual understanding and true love, but also by satirizing the marriage founded on the basis of origin and desire. The marriage based on social position and money can’t bring happy life.

The writer Jane Austen disclosed mid-cla young ladies’ different ideas of marriage and love through describing the different ways in which the Bennet girls doing with their marriage problems, and this undoubtedly shows the writer’s idea about love and marriage: it’s wrong to get married just for property, wealth and status while neither would it be without caring about those elements.Jane Austen just attached great

significance to marriage through her novel by telling people that marriage should be regarded carefully because it is not a game you could just enjoy without prudent

consideration. She also wanted to deliver information that marriage should be based on real love between the lovers. The female subject Elizabeth is a mid-cla girl, and Darcy proposed to her regardle of the gap between them, but Elizabeth refused

because of his pride had formed Eli’s prejudice.Cause Darcy’s pride was a suggest of status gap between he and Eli, he wouldn’t have the same thought with Eli and

consequently the ideal marriage. But later Darcy’s doings especially his change of the prideful manner eliminated Eli’s misunderstandings and prejudice about him, and Eli accepted his proposal. Those two opposite attitudes reflect females pursue of

independent personality and equality.I think Elizabeth has personality ethic which caused her independent idea about love and marriage and in consequence she earned a happy life. There’re also Eli’s sisters’ love stories served as contrasts to the female subject’s ideal marriage, such as Charlotte and Collin’s life: they do had a luxury life, but there’s noreal love between them and this kind of marriage is surely a tragedy of society.(_270_ Words)

篇3:希腊神话读后感英文 in the first chapter, it mainly talked about the prometheus, who was only seed of the ancient god family that exiled by zeus.he is intelligent and wise, created human beings according to the god’s appearance, and stuffs they need.all prometheus did was caused zeus’ envy, and stole fire make him tied in the mountain and pecked by the eagle sent by zeus.then the story begins from here. whatever the zeus, the main god and also has abundant emotions, just like man.and his wife hera is the daughter of cronus, and in charge of the family and marriage, she has a strong jealous heart, killing and revenge filled with the world, killing cause vengeance, vengeance and repetitive killing.even god also exist human selfishne and ugly.zeus in this aspect reflects particularly special.although he is the lord of the gods, but there is no that kind of emperor feeling who should behave.he is infatuated with worldly woman, or incarnation spirit beast, or incarnation, handsome, close to lure beautiful woman, everywhere leave merry seed.the woman knew that he was the lord of all gods besides accept this destiny, can still how to do? nothing.zeu wife hera jealousy extremely heavy.as the same victims for the women, she not only did not give enough sympathy, but resent and revenge in their body, as if someone else is seduce her husband not her husband cheat others.the unhappy or angry between this couple, directly caused the pain of others.iraq is one of the typical victims.when zeus know he seduce the iraq things have been known by hera, he put the iraq into a cow in order not to let hera find the iraq.but it still make hera found out, she sent a servant guarded the iraq.from now on iraq cannot back to home even she has family, they cannot recognize each other even loved ones near at hand, the worst is leave their homes and the undertake the lovesickne .greek mythology to person to god has made a real show, not whitewash light, and also do not cover the darkne.not because he is a hero and cover the mean, not because he is god and conceal its hypocrisy.criticism of human nature is deeply rooted in this soil, so critical to appear deep powerful. through man’s fantasy, with a kind of involuntary artistic way proceed natural and social form is made by imagination and the aid of imagination to conquer nature, control the forces of nature to visualize .so the myth is an exploration of human nature and ego and natural and self -relationship.marx said that.
