Good evening! First, I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to my supervisor, Eric.With his constant encouragement and guidance, I have finished my paper.Now, I will present my efforts to you and welcome any correction.The title of my paper is An Empirical Study of Lexical Approach in College English Writing.And it’s my honor to choose the same topic just as my supervisor did when he graduated from Shan Dong University as a postgraduate.I choose this as my topic due to the following reasons.Writing is a complicated cognitive proce which plays an indispensable part in language acquisition.What’s more, writing proves to be equally important when students write their resumes, applications, emails and reports in their work.However, as the teaching and learning are always neglected by both teachers and students.And English education in China always strees input rather than output.As a result, students’ writing proficiency is shockingly low.For the above facts, I select the subject “lexical approach in college English writing” as my topic.And my study aims to explore whether there is a relationship between lexical chunks and writing proficiency, how the Lexical Approach can be applied in the teaching of college English writing to improve students’ writing proficiency.
Next, it’s my outline of my paper.In the main part of this paper, I divide it into five parts.Part one is introduction which involves the current situation of college English writing, the purpose and significance of the study.Part two is the literature review.It presents the definition of the lexical chunks and lexical approach to us.What’s more, this part emphasizes the importance of the lexical chunks in college English writing.Part three offers the design of the empirical study and the method of teaching chunks.Part four deals with the statistical results of the testing and experiment, and then followed by the discuion and inspiration of the results.Part five, also the last part, draws a conclusion that the lexical approach contributes to the improvement of students’ writing proficiency and that the approach is effective and applicable.In addition, we must continually study the lexical chunks and do more related practices in order to improve our English writing.
