——What Shaun Symbolizes In Real Life
Watching Shaun of the Dead provided me with a lot of pleasure as well as a lot of unexpected shocks.The characters are so vivid that I can really see them in real life.I enjoyed the humors, fancy music, impreive scenes, and breathed as if I were one of them.So I would like to share my opinions I read from Shaun.
The hero, Shaun, reminds me of the common points of quite a few people who are numb to life and have no ambition.Shaun works in an electrical appliance shop for a long time without any achievement and respect from colleagues, takes his girlfriend, Liz, to the same place for “dating”, during which the couple and their respective friends fool around, and behaves nothing like a filial son for his mother.His ordinary unsucceful daily life seems to follow an unvaried pattern, getting up, working, playing, sleeping and planning nothing, which resembles zombie who has body but no brain.Considering our real life, the character of Shaun has symbol meanings.The point that he lives like a zombie from some perspective actually symbolizes a large number of people who are idling about, content with things as they are, and showing little concern for friends and family.Meanwhile, people like that may be unaware of their depravation and wasting life.
Besides, Shaun has more than the weakne mentioned above.When Liz complained a lot about their boring and unchangeable dating, he promised to make a change by ordering a table at a seafood restaurant as the first step, which temporarily soothed Liz.When his stepfather purposely dropped in at the shop to inform Shaun of seeing his mother, he also promised to buy a bunch of flowers for her.Neverthele, as things turned out, Shaun never realized what he had promised.Shaun forgot to reserve a seat and threw away the flowers.His life is a me, though he has tried a bit.From this point of view, Shaun is the symbol of people who always pay lip-service.“Their words speak louder than acts;” their confidence and determination are defeated easily; their behaviors ruin others’ trust in themselves.People like that are destined never to accomplish anything.
In spit of that, the film still portrays an image of hero--Shaun by the courage and leadership he shows in their escape and fight against zombies.That he planed to rescue Liz and his mother rather than stay at home regardle of his personal safety is the beginning of Shaun really trying his best to arrange something well, that is to say, discovering his own self worth and moving forward.In their endeavor for survival, Shaun regained his friends’ trust and Liz’s love, which explains that it is never too late to make a change and make progre.As long as you are willing to do something and you devote yourself to it, there is a big chance you can make it.The couple remaining safe was a delight to me, because if they were killed, the film would only leave the gloom of terror and death but not light of succe and hope.It is time that produces hero, so don’t abandon oneself for temporary frustration.There must be a significant event in life that can make one’s life totally different.
