One way to test this would be for a person to journey from coast to without any money, relying solely on the good will of his fellow Americans. The idea intrigued me.So I decided to make a trip from the Pacific Coast to the Atlantic Coast without a penny.I rose early on September 6,1994, and headed for the Golden Gate Bridge.During the six weeks’ journey, I hitched 82 rides and covered 4,223 miles acro.I found that people were generally compaionate.Hearing I had whatever they happened to have with me.In Jamestown, Tenneee, a science teacher invited me to talk to her cla about my trip. All the kids were well-mannered and attentive.Their questions kept coming.I told the students how proud I was to live in a country where people were still willing to help out a stranger.I told them, “No matter who you are, you can still depend on the kindne of strangers.”

Optimism and peimism are powerful forces, and each of us must choose which we want, so as to shape our outlook and our expectations. From which perspective do we want to view life? Will we look up in hope or down in despair? An optimistic attitude is not a luxury; it’s a neceity. The way you look at life will determine how you feel, perform, and how well you will get along with others.Conversely, negative thoughts, attitudes, and expectations feed on themselves; they become a self-fulfilling prophecy.Peimism creates a sad and hopele place where no one wants to live. When the world is seen as a hopeful, positive place, people are more likely to achieve.Optimism doesn’t need to be naïve.You can be an optimist and still recognize that problems exist and that some of them are not deal with easily.Yet optimism draws our attention away from negativism and channels it into positive, constructive thinking. When you’re an optimist, you’re more concerned with problem-solving than with usele fault-finding.To tackle a big problem, one needs both optimism and persistence.

There’s a difference between “being a writer” and writing. As a matter of fact, many who wish to be writers are longing for wealth and fame, not the long hours alone at the type-writer.They are not aware of the fact that writing is a lonely, private and poor-paying affair.I remember when I became a freelance writer,I had no prospects at all. What I did have was a friend and a small storage room in an apartment building. It didn’t even matter that it was cold and had no bathroom.Immediately I bought a used manual typewriter and plunged myself into writing. After a year or so, however, I was offered a job earning $6,000 a year.As the dollars were dancing in my head, something cleared my senses. From deep inside a bull-headed resolution welled u .I heard myself saying,“I’m going to stick it out and write.” I realized that you had to make sacrifices and live creatively to keep working at your dreams. Then, in 1970,17 years after I left the Coast Guard, Roots was published. The shadows had turned into dazzling limelight.

In his commencement addre, Jobs tells us three stories from his life. The first story is about connecting the dots. Here “dots” refers to the many, varied experiences in your life.Jobs wants to stre that you can never know in advance what life will become. You can only know the significance of your various experiences by looking backwards. Therefore, you must bravely trust your intuition, believing that the path you have chosen will lead you to the life you truly want even when it leads you off the well-worn path. The second story Jobs tells is about love and lo.You’ve got to find what you love, and that is as true for work as it is for your lovers. The only way to be truly satisfied with life is to do what you believe is great work, and the only way to do great work is to love what you do.If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking, and don’t settle.Sometimes the turn of events may be devastating, but don’t lose faith. All the loes you have stumbled into may bring about huge benefits later on.The third story Jobs tells is about death.Needle to say, no one wants to die, yet death is the destination we all share.Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.Don’t be trapped by dogma.Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice, and always have the courage to follow heart and intuition.
