Paage Four One day mother looks at Tom’s shirt and says,“ Look at you shirt.It is too dirty! You must wash it.”
“But I wash it only yesterday”,says the boy.“It is dirty now.You must wash it again.”
“I don’t want to wash it today,it will be dirty tomorrow.” “All right.Don’t do it then ,”Tom ’s mother says.
In the evening ,Tom comes back from school.He is very hungry .He asks his mother to give him something to eat.“You have breakfast in the morning,Tom, and you have lunch at school.” “But I’m hungry again!”
“But if I give you something to eat today,you will be hungry again tomorrow.”

It’s morning ,Peter is still in bed.Then the telephone rings(响)，and he gets up and goes to answer it .“hello,83608571.Who ’s that, please? Says Peter.“It’s John here.How are you ,Peter?” “I’m fine, thanks.And you?” “Fine , thanks.”
Peter looks at his watch and says,”Oh,It’s only 5 o’clock in the morning.You get up so early,I think.” “Early? I’m going to have dinner.”
“You ’re going to have dinner? Who has dinner at five o’clock in the morning?”
Peter hears John laughing(笑) in the telephone.John says,“I’m not in Beijing,but in the U.S.A.My father and mother bring(带) me here today.”
“Oh ,I see.”Peter says and laughs,too.
Paage Six
Mary likes sugar very much,but her mother doesn’t give her.It is bad for her teeth,her mother thinks.But Mary has a very nice grandpa.The old man loves mary very much and sometimes he buys some sugar.Then Mary’mother lets her ea it because she wants make the old man happy.Today is Friday.It is Mary’s eighth birthday.She says,“Please,God(上帝),make them give me a big box of sugar for my birthday.”Her mother says,“God can’t hear you.”
“I know,”says Mary,“but grandpa is in the next room,and he can.”
Paage Seven There is a poor man.He has an orange.It is very ,very big ,as big as a football.Nobody sees such a big orange before(以前).Then the poor man gives it to the King(国王).The King is very happy,so he gives the poor man a lot of money for it .A rich mqn thinks,“It’s only an orange.Why does the King give so much money for it? I’ll take my gold cup to the King.”
When the King sees the gold cup,he says to the rich man,“The cup is so beautiful! I’ll show you something great.Please take this great orange away.”
Paage Eight Long ago(很久以前)，people (人们) in Rome（罗马）spoke（讲）Latin（拉丁文）.Students in school learned to read and write in Latin.Books were in Latin.Some Romans(罗马人)went to other parts of the world.They took their language(语言) with them.Soon latin was used in many countries.But people in different(不同的)place spoke Latin in a different way.So Latin was changed in many ways.At last people did not speak Latin any more(不再) but many new languages came from the old one Latin.People don’t speak Latin today.But many word we use are from Latin words,for example,“street”,“wall”,and“city”.
Paage Nine Christmas is on December 25th (12月25日)of each year.It’s the most important holiday in America.People like to send Christmas cards to their friends and they buy gifts for their family and friends before Christmas.Christmas Day is a day for family reunion(团聚).The family come together and sit down to have a big meal at home in the afternoon.Childen are very happy that day, because they can get a lot of gifts.
Paage Ten Mike and Tom are twins().One day their mother gives Mike tow apples and says,“ Mike,give one to your brother.You must do it like a good brother.”
“How does a good brother do?” Mike asks.
“He always gives the bigger one to his brother.”answers his mother.“Oh,I see.”says Mike.Then he takes the apples to Tom and says to him,There are two apples here and be a good brother.”
Paage One One day a crow(乌鸦)sees a bottle.There is some water in the bottle .But he can’t drink the water because the water is very low (低、浅)in the bottle.How can he do? He thinks for several (一些)minutes(分钟)and gets an idea.He puts some stones in the bottle and then the water begins to rise(上升).At last ,the water is closed enough for him to drink.The crow ie quite happy to have something to drink.A rich man lives in one room and a poor man lives next to his room.
Paage Two The poor man likes to sing when he is woking.He sings one song ,then sings another.But the rich man likes sleeping and he can’t sleep when he hears the poor man singing.One day the rich man says,“Hi,I’ll give you a bag full of money every day if you stops singing.”
“Fine,” says the poor man .And so he stops singing and is richer and richer(越来越富).But he isn’t happy because he wants very much to sing again.At last he gives all his money backto the rich man.“Here, ”he says, “Take all your money.I don’t want your money,I want to sing.I won’t be happy if Idon’t sing.”
Then he sings again and is happy again.
Paage Three Do you have a piggy bank(小猪存钱罐)? You can put money in a piggy bank.When you need to buy something, you can take money out of it .It is sometimes hard to get the money out from it ,so you just leave your money in.You can’t spend the money in it.So a piggy bank helps you save(储存、保存) your money.
