Summary :

Around the World in Eighty Days is a claic adventure novel by the French writer Jules Verne, first published in 1873.In the story, Phileas Fogg of London and his newly employed French valet Paepartout attempt to go around the world in 80 days on a £20,000 wager set by his friends at the Reform Club.It is one of Verne\'s most acclaimed works.

Comments/Reflections:

Around the World in 80 days was written during a time of war between France and Pruia. The story begins in London on October 2, 1872.Phileas Fogg is a rich English gentleman and bachelor, live in Burlington Gardens.Despite his wealth, Mr Fogg, whose face is described as \"repose in action\", lives a modest life with habits carried out with mathematical precision.Mr.Fogg\'s social life is simply as no families, no friends, and no partners except a valet. But everyone knew that he is a member of the Reform Club.Having dismied his former valet, James Foster, for bringing him shaving water at 84 °F instead of 86 °F, Mr Fogg hires a Frenchman by the name of Jean Paepartout, who is about 30 years old, as a replacement.

Later, on that day, in the Reform Club, Fogg gets involved in an argument, it is now poible to travel around the world in 80 days.He accepts a wager for £20,000 from his fellow club members, which he will receive if he makes it around the world in 801

days.Accompanied by Monsieur Paepartout, he leaves London by train at 8:45 P.M.on October 2, 1872, and thus is due back at the Reform Club at the same time 80 days later, on December 21.

This voyage would not have been poible earlier than the 1870s as the innovations such as railroad travel and steam engines would have made this time frame impoible.Mr.Fogg was nothing if not methodical. He exactly planned the entire journey including rail time tables and financial budgeting.

The travelers had many adventures along the way.The team had to deal with bank robberies and travel on the backs of elephants. In India, they combated savages that were about to sacrifice a woman. The travelers saved the woman and escaped with their lives. In the United States, the adventures battled native American Indians that attacked their train.Paepartout was captured by the Indians during the fight and Mr.Fogg was forced to delay his travels and give chase to the Indians with a troop of US cavalry at his side. The chase was succeful in saving Paepartout, but resulted in Mr.Fogg losing valuable time in his journey. He was now likely to lose his wager.Even though Mr.Fogg and company were now significantly behind schedule, he was not going to give up.The group desperately tried to move very quickly and slowly, but surely, he made up lost time. After 81 days had paed, the travelers entered London.Mr.Fogg believed that he had lost the wager. As methodical and organized as Mr.Fogg was, he did not take into account the fact that by traveling Eastward, he would actually gain an additional day. While Mr.Fogg and Paepartout actually slept 81 times, only 80 days on the calendar in London had paed.Mr.Fogg had won his wager. And finally, the woman he saved from India had fall in loved with Mr.Fogg.So did he.Thus the get married with the notarization in front of Paepartout and leading a happine time.

In addition, let’s talk bout the author, Jules Verne, a French writer.Verne wrote about space, air, and underwater travel before air travel and practical submarines were invented, and before practical means of space travel had been devised. He is the second most translated author in the world. Some of his books have also been made into live-action and animated films and television shows.Verne is often referred to as

the \"Father of Science Fiction\".His first books, the shortest, Around the World or From the Earth to the Moon, are still the best in my view. However, the works should be judged as a whole rather than in detail, and on their results rather than their intrinsic quality.Over the last forty years, they have had an influence unequalled by any other books on the children of this and every country in Europe. And the influence has been good, in so far as can be judged today.

All in all, Around the world in eighty days in a nice book which deserved all of us to read. The main character Mr.Fogg is a person full of intelligence, accuration, and wisdom. And his valet, Paepartout, is full of flexibility, loyalty and bravery. From their story, we can learn a lot of things such as facing the challenges brave.I also learn the a people want to make a large succe have to full of ambitions.Hope you enjoy the books too.
