Today, I attend the cla of a foreign teacher. He give us a speech about the prejudice between men and women. His name is James, and he is so tall and white.
According to his lecture, we firstly talk about the careers advised for the man and the woman. We suggest the man to be an engineer, a scientist, a doctor and so on.And the woman Susan, we think the nurse, the secretary and the house-wife suit her best.
Then we watch a video about the different attitudes towards shopping, sleeping, watching TV, chatting and so on between boys and girls.
Afterwards, we have a debate on the advantages and disadvantages men have comparing with women. We talk with each other happily.Besides, the teacher shows us the historical overview.Oscar Wilde said:“The fact is, you have fallen lately, Cecily, into a bad habit of thinking for yourself. You should give it up.It is not quite womanly...men don\'t like it.”In 1900 only 15% of married women worked outside the home. And many employers would not employ a married woman. However, after the two World Wars, attitudes began to change.End of WW2 - 460,000 women in the military and over 6,500,000 in civilian war work. And now, women and men are equal. But there are also some prejudices on women. For example, men earn more, even when doing same job.
In addition, we have a look at the family situation.Men in family play the role of a provider, a protector and a bread-winner.Women are the housewife. But now, because of more and more women going for a job, a lot of men become the house-husbands.
Finally, the conclusion is that gender iues still much discued in the UK.And the prejudice on women should be dealt with in law but not in practice.
As far as I am concerned, the prejudice also exists in China. What I think is that men and women have different social division of labours .Some jobs just suit men as well as some are only women’s.
