The Hare and the Torroise A hare is an animal that can run very fast.A slowly is an anmial that can move only very slowly.One day, a hare laughed at a tortoise that was moving slowly past him.The torroise, who did not like being laughed at because he waw slow, said to the hare, “Although you can run faster than I, I will beat you in a race.”

The hare, thinging that the tortoise could not do this, said,“Very well, I will race you.”

The two animals asked a fox to be the judge and to choose the place for the race.On the day of the race, the fox told the animals where the race would begin and where it would end.

The fox then said,“One , two, three, go!”and the race began.The hare ran off and was soon a long way in front of the tortoise.He was so far in front that he stopped running to have a rest and soon fell asleep.The tortoise, howerve, just kept on moving slowly forward.When the hare woke up, he saw that the tortoise had paed him and was now a long way in front of him.He ran as fast as he could to catch up and pa the tortoise, but before he could do this, the fox judge the tortoise to be the winner of the race.

Tht Boy Who Cried Wolf A shepherd boy looked after the sheep belonging to the people of the village.One day he cried,“Wolf!Wolf!”Hearing him, the villagers ran to help him drive away the wolf.Howerver, when they reached him, there was no wolf to be seen.The boy thought is was very funny.“You weren’t quick enough,”he said to them.“The wolf has run away.”

Thinking he was very clever, a few days later he shouted “Wolf! ”again.Again, the villagers came to help him, and again he said,“You weren’t quick enough.The wolf has run away.”The angry villagers went back to their work in the village.

A week later, the boy shouted “Wolf!”again, but the villagers did not believe him.However, this time there really was a wolf, and it killed all the sheep because no one came to drive it away.
