Reading Objectives

ⅰ.To practise the vocabulary relating to music. ⅱ.To read and understand a newspaper article. ⅲ.To expre opinions and give reasons for them.

ⅳ.To practise using adverbial clauses of cause, result and purpose with because, as, since, so that and so/such…that.

ⅴ.To distinguish between because and because of and practise using them correctly.

Poible problems

ⅰ.Students may have problems distinguishing between because and because of.

ⅱ.Some students may feel le confident in expreing their own opinions orally and giving reasons in English than other students.

Teaching Aims:

i.To know the vocabulary relating to music.

ii.To listen to the text and find out some detail information. iii.To read and understand a newspaper article.

iv.To write an introduction of a famous musician or singer. v.To expre opinions and give reasons for them.

Teaching Aids: computer and caette Teaching Procedures: Ⅰ.Warming up

1.Raise some questions about music, encourage students to say something relating to music as much as poible.2.Listen to some pieces of music including folk music, pop music, jazz, claical music and so on.

3.Discu the claical music which played by Kong Xiangdong.Give students a brief introduction of this famous pianist and his combination of western music with traditional Chinese folk.Ⅱ.Pre-Reading Prediction Before reading the text, give students some headings of each paragraph in the article.Have students predict the correct order of each headings.

Ⅲ.Reading 1.Fast Reading ① Get the main idea and the structure of the text.a.Give students several minutes to read the text quickly and silently to get the main idea of the whole paage.b.While reading, make students try to match the headings on the screen.c.After reading, check the predictions as a cla, then show the structure of this article.② Peer Study a.Encourage students to gue the meanings of new words when reading.b.Because different students have different level, so teacher makes students study the new vocabulary from their clamates to make them know more impreively and actively.2.Listening ① Listen to the caette.② Do some True or False exercises.③ After getting familiar with the content, students try to remember some detail information and complete the sentences in the table.3.Careful Reading ① Read part one carefully and answer the questions on the screen.

In cla, students read through the questions and answer them.② Group Work a.Divide students into two groups.b.Students read the rest two parts carefully, each group reads its own part, and designs some questions of the text.c.Then two groups exchange their reading content carefully.d.Competition Students in two groups compete with each other, one group ask questions and one group answer the questions raised by clamates in the other group.The group, which gets the most scores at last, is the winner.

Ⅳ Post-Reading

Writing and Speaking 1.Writing----How can we introduce a famous musician or singer? ① Give the structure of today’s leon and some useful expreions.② Lead students to write the introduction, for example, Jay Chou.③ Group in four, write down an introduction ,and then read it in cla.2.Discuion ① Give some questions to elicit what we can learn from Kong.② How to achieve our own dream?

Ⅴ.Homework 1.Write an article about one of the famous musician or singer.2.Finish Ex.5—Ex.10 on page 27.3.Give students some websites to know more about Kong Xiangdong.
