Are Neighbors Important ?
In pioneer days, being a good neighbor was very important.Neighbors helped one another raise a house, build a barn, and clear fields.Families depended on one another for friendship and entertainment.But today in our cities and suburbs, neighboring is not common.A family may not even know the other families that live close by.
We live in an age of machines, and each family may have its own car, TV set, and washing machine.People no longer depend on neighbors as much as they once did.
Machines keep people apart in other ways.In our grandparents\' time, women met while they hung out their washing, and men stopped and talked while they mowed their lawns.Today, women stay in the house with their automatic dryers.The men can\'t hear anything above the roar of their
power lawn mowers.And the children are inside watching their favorite TV show.
Is the idea of being neighborly old-fashioned? In 1965, a power failure hit New York City, and many thousands of people were left stranded.Suddenly, everyone shared the same problem, and our largest city became a group of eight million neighbors.People with cars offered rides to those walking.Other persons helped direct traffic.Trapped in elevators,people played word games and helped keep each other in good spirits.
In times of trouble, people still depend on one another.As time goes on, people may once again feel that being a good neighbor is important.
邻居重要吗?
在拓荒时代，成为好邻居非常重要。邻居们相互帮助养家糊口，修建谷仓，清理农田。家庭之间相互依赖获得友谊和娱乐。但如今在市区或者市郊，比邻而居并不常见。一个家庭可能甚至不认识附近居住的其他家庭。

与邻居友好相处的想法是否过时了?1965年，纽约城停电，使得成千上万的人手足无措。突然，所有的人都有着共同的问题，我们最大的城市变成了八百万人互为邻里的大集体。开车的人让走路的人搭载。另外有些人帮忙指挥交通。陷在电梯里的人们做着文字游戏，相互帮忙保持良好情绪。

Step Away From the Video Games
Every afternoon hundreds of thousands of youths flood Internet cafes, switch on a game console, or otherwise sit down to involve themselves in intense fantasy worlds.I\'m talking about video games; games like Counter Strike, Diablo, Smash Brothers or Halo.These games can be fun and exciting, but we need to watch out for when this pastime becomes an addiction.
Games are often incredibly exciting and dramatic, but they generally aren\'t very intellectual.We don\'t learn as much from them as we would simply reading a book, and spending too much time playing them can take away from our study time.We need to remember that we are students first and foremost.Nothing should ever get in the way of proper studying.
Video games can also be a bad influence on younger children who may be watching.Many video
games are violent and the object in most of them is to kill the other player(s).This does not send the right meage to the children who need to be told that violence is not acceptable and need to be taught how to handle situations maturely.Even if we do decide ourselves to sit down and play a violent video game, we need to make sure that it is not influencing the younger people around
US.

游戏通常都非常刺激、生动，但通常并不能锻炼智力。玩游戏并不能像读书那样学到很多知识，况且花太多时间玩游戏也会占据我们读书的时间。我们必须记住，首先也是最重要的一点是，我们还是学生。没有什么应该影响我们正常的读书。
电子游戏对于那些只是观看的小孩也是一个坏影响。许多电子游戏都非常暴力，其目标大部分都是杀死另外的玩家。对于那些必须教会他们暴力是不正当的，必须教会他们成熟处理事情的孩子来说，这并没有传达一个正确的信息。即使我们自己决定坐下来打一场刺激的电子游戏，也必须确保没有影响到周围的年轻人。

On Friendship
Friendship means being friendly to each other or making friends with one another.Human beings are social animals.They do not live in isolation.They need each other both physically and emotionally.However, some people distort friendship by forming small groups that are harmful to others, or even to the whole community.In university some students from the same city or province form an aociation to help each other.But such aociations often exclude students from other parts of the country, and thus do not promote friendship in a broad sense.
True and lasting friendship is based on a more solid foundarien.Real friends share the same ideals.While marching toward their common objective, they help each other.If one makes a mistake, his friend will not hesitate to point it out for him, because he knows the frank criticism will help him.What we need is this type of genuine friendship.
论友谊
友谊意味着彼此友好相处或与他人交朋友。人类是一种社会动物，他们不能孤立存在，他们在生理上和情感上都彼此需要。

On Diligence

There is no better help to diligence than the habit of early rising, which just like all other good habits is most easily formed in youth.There is an English saying, \"Lost time never returns.\" This means that everybody must be diligent, and make good use of his time.One must study hard when he is
young so that he may make great progre, succeed in life and become useful to his country.Therefore, we say that diligence Is the mother of succe.
论勤奋

Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.Worry, fear, self-distrust
bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust.
Whether 60 or 16, there is in every human being\'s heart the looking forward to wonder, the endle child-like appetite of what\'s next and the joy of the game of living.In the center of your heart and my heart there is a wirele station: so long as it is receiving meages of beauty, hope, cheer, courage and
power from men and from God, you are young.
When the aerials are down, and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of peimism, then you are grown old, even at 20, but as long as your aerials are up to catch waves of
optimism, there is hope you may die young at 80.
