(1)Nothing is better than god.Nothing is worse then evil.

Love is for even.Love is everything.Love is love, your life can without love, but you won\'t happy.Last night I watched a movie, its name is \"Lost\",in it,i learned many things. The brief story is about fourty people alive after their plane felt down to an island. It told us the life they lived in the island, and the curious things.I only watched the chapter 1 to chapter 6. Tonight I will go on it,enjoy it.

(2)The Importance of Confidence

Whatever one does, one should do it with confidence. If one has no confidence, there is little poibility that one can achieve anything when faced with hardships. This truth seems to be self-evident.In reality, however, we do see a lot of people who always complain that they lack the ability to do something or that their difficulties are too great to overcome. For some, this might be true. But for many others, this only shows that they have lost heart. Why do some people often feel frustrated even though they are capable of doing something? In the first place, these people don’t have a correct estimate of themselves.Secondly, there is another poibility that they exaggerate the difficulties. ------------------ (3)Smoking

It is almost known to all that smoking is bad for people\'s health. The World Health Organization says diseases linked to smoking kill at least two million five-hundred-thousand persons each year.It is difficult to stop smoking. It usually becomes a habitual behaviour, are not easy to be given up. Measures have been taken to help people keep away from the harm of smoking. The World \"No Tobacco Day\" is observed every year as the biggest compaign against smoking.

------------------ (4)Advantages of Five-Day week

A five-day week has been put into practice in China, which is welcomed by every-one.Families have benefited from it very much.Children are able to learn usefully skills, women have enough time to take care of the house or relax.

society has also benefited from it.Then the shops and travel agency will have more customers.What\'s more, individuals can make full use of a weekend for a good rest.Adequate rest will enable him to work more efficiently. ------------------ (5)Global Shortage of Fresh Water

People often think that water will never be used up.It seems as if water is always available around us .

1 In fact water is rather limited on the earth. With the rapid increase of population and fast development of industries, water is more needed than before.some big cities in China are facing the problem of water shorage already.

The people should be made aware of the real situation about the water We have to protect the existing water resources and develop new ones.

(6)Learning:A Lifelong Career【学习:一生的事业】

As food is to the body, so is learning to the mind. Our bodies grow and muscles develop with the intake of adequate nutritious food.Likewise, we should keep learning day by day to maintain our keen mental power and expand our intellectual capacity.Constant learning supplies us with inexhaustible fuel for driving us to sharpen our power of reasoning, analysis, and judgment.Learning inceantly is the surest way to keep pace with the times in the information age, and an infallible warrant of succe in times of uncertainty.

Once learning stops, vegetation sets in.It is a common fallacy to regard school as the only workshop for the acquisition of knowledge. On the contrary, learning should be a never-ending proce, from the cradle to the grave. With the world ever changing so fast, the cease from learning for just a few days will make a person lag behind.What\'s worse, the animalistic instinct dormant deep in our subconsciousne will come to life, weakening our will to pursue our noble ideal, sapping our determination to sweep away obstacles to our succe and strangling our desire for the refinement of our character.Lack of learning will inevitably lead to the stagnation of the mind, or even worse, its foilization, Therefore, to stay mentally young, we have to take learning as a lifelong career.

(7)heavy shoolwork【课业繁重】

In my opinion, the schoolwork now being aigned to high school students is too heavy. While it is true that students need to study, they need other things as well if they are to grow into healthy and well-rounded adults.High should be allowed more time for play.Plying is not wasting time, as some think. It gives them physical exercise, and also exercise their imagination.Which tends to be stifled by too much study. Finally, the preure put on high school students by exceive schoolwork can cause serious stre, which is unhealthy physically and mentally.I do not advocate the elimination of schoolwork.I do think, however, that a reduction of the current heavy load would be beneficial to students and to the society as a whole.

(8)Time【时间】

Lost time is never found again. This is something which I learned very clearly last semester.I spent so much time fooling around that my grades began to suffer.I finally realized that something had to be done.It was time for a change.

Now I have a new plan for using my time wisely.I have set my alarm clock ahead half an hour. This will give me a head start on the day.I have also decided to keep a log of what I do and when I do it.Looking back on what I’ve done will give me some ideas on how to reorganize my time.

(9)Work and Play【工作与娱乐】

Work and play do not contradict each other; in fact, they complement each other. As the saying goes, \"All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.\" A life burdened with work leads you nowhere, for you would get tired and bored with your daily routine work.On the other hand, proper recreation will relieve the tension and discomfort of our monotonous life because it offers you various ways to let out your pent-up emotions.

What I usually do to relax after school is jogging and seeing movies.Usually I don\'t spare time for exercise, but I value the physical education cla at school.Jogging several rounds in the field certainly relieves the day\'s preure. On weekends, I\'ll catch the morning movie for my visual enjoyment.I feel revived and energetic for another week\'s work-load.

(10)My first Job【我的第一份工作】

My first job was at a cramming school. It was three years ago when I just graduated from junior high school and finished the entrance examination.since I had nothing to do that summer, I decided to find a job, tasting the joy of independence.

I was responsible for answering the telephone and taking the meage.I worked eight hours a day, six days a week. The work was not difficult nor heavy to me and I gue I did well. The most delighted thing was perhaps that I could spend the money I earned all by myself.

3 (11)My Favorite Sports【我最喜爱的运动】

Sports help everyone to keep healthy, happy, and efficient. So I pay special attention to games, especially table-tennis.Table tennis is my favorite game.I play it almost every day.

Table-tennis is an ideal game us because it brings the whole body into action. It strengthens our muscles, expands our lungs, promotes the circulation of the blood, and causes a healthy action of the skin.Besides, it is very amusing and does not cost us much money.Table-tennis is very moderate; it is not so rough as football. It is an indoor game and can be played even on rainy days. Thus, it is my favorite kind of exercise.

(12)The poor are very wonderful people. One evening we went out and we picked up four people from the street. And one of them was in a most terrible condition, and I told the sisters: You take care of the other three.I take care of this one who looked worse. So I did for her all that my love can do.I put her in bed, and there was such a beautiful smile on her face. She took hold of my hand as she said just the words \"thank you\" and she died.I could not help but examine my conscience[良心]before her and I asked what would I say if I was in her place. And my answer was very simple.I would have tried to draw a little attention to myself.I would have said I am hungry, that I am dying, I am cold, I am in pain, or something, but she gave me much more-she gave me her grateful love. And she died with a smile on her face.As did that man whom we picked up from the drain[阴沟、下水道], half eaten with worms, and we brought him to the home.\"I have lived like an animal in the street, but I am going to die like an angel, loved and cared for.\" And it was so wonderful to see the greatne of that man who could speak like that, who could die like that without blaming anybody, without cursing anybody, without comparing anything.Like an angel-this is the greatne of our people. And that is why we believe what Jesus had said: I was hungry, I was naked, I was homele, I was unwanted, unloved, uncared for, and you did it to me. I believe that we are not real social workers. We may be doing social work in the eyes of the people, but we are really contemplatives[修行者、沉思冥想的人] in the heart of the world. For we are touching the body of Christ twenty-four hours…And I think that in our family we don\'t need bombs and guns, to destroy, to bring peace, just get together, love one another, bring that peace, that joy, that strength of presence of each other in the home. And we will be able to overcome all the evil that is in the world. And with this prize that I have received as a Prize of Peace, I am going to try to make the home for many people who have no home.Because I believe that love begins at home, and if we can create a home for the poor I think that more and more love will spread. And we will be able through this understanding love to bring peace be the good news to the poor. The poor in our own family first, in our country and in the world. To be able to do this, our Sisters, our

4 lives have to be wove with prayer. They have to be woven with Christ to be able to understand, to be able to share.Because to be woven with Christ is to be able to understand, to be able to share.Because today there is so much suffering…When I pick up a person from the street, hungry, I give him a plate of rice, a piece of bread, I have satisfied.I have removed that hunger. But a person who is shut out, who feels unwanted, unloved, terrified, the person who has been thrown out from society-that poverty is so full of hurt and so unbearable…And so let us always meet each other with a smile, for the smile is the beginning of love, and once we begin to love each other naturally we want to do something.(13) A Boy and His Tree A long time ago, there was a huge apple tree.A little boy loved to come and play around it every day.He climbed to the tree top, ate the apples, took a nap under the shadow… He loved the tree and the tree loved to play with him.

Time went by…The little boy had grown up and he no longer played around the tree. One day, the boy came back to the tree and looked sad.“Come and play with me,” the tree asked the boy.

“I am no longer a kid, I don’t play around trees anymore.” The boy replied, “I want toys.I need money to buy them.” “Sorry, but I don’t have money…but you can pick all my apples and sell them. So, you will have money.” The boy was so excited. He picked all the apples on the tree and left happily. The boy didn’t come back after he picked the apples. The tree was sad.

One day, the boy returned and the tree was so excited.“Come and play with me.” The tree said.“I don’t have time to play.I have to work for my family. We need a house for shelter. Can you help me?” “Sorry, but I don’t have a house. But you can cut off my branches to build your house.” So the boy cut all the branches of the tree and left happily.

The tree was glad to see him happy but the boy didn’t appear since then. The tree was again lonely and sad.One hot summer day, the boy returned and the tree was delighted.“Come and play with me!” the tree said.

“I am sad and getting old.I want to go sailing to relax myself. Can you give me a boat?” “Use my trunk to build the boat. You can sail and be happy.” So the boy cut the tree trunk to make a boat.He went sailing and did not show up for a long time.

Finally, the boy returned after he left for so many years.“Sorry, my boy.But I don’t have anything for you anymore. No more apples for you.” the tree said.“ I don’t have teeth to bite.” The boy replied.“ No more trunk for you to climb on.” “I am too old for that now.” the boy said.“I really want to give you something…the only thing left is my dying roots.” The tree said with tears.“I don’t need much now, just a place to rest.I am tired after all these years.” The boy replied.“Good! Old tree roots are the

5 best place to lean on and rest.Come here, please sit down with me and have a rest.” The boy sat down and the tree was glad and smiled with tears…

This is a story of everyone. The tree is our parent. When we were young, we loved to play with Mom and Dad… When we grow up, we leave them, and only come to them when we need something or when we are in trouble. No matter what, parents will always be there and give everything they could to make you happy. You may think that the boy is cruel to the tree but that\'s how all of us are treating our parents.

(14)Christmas

The Feast of Christmas

It is not easy to pin-point the origins of the Christmas feast, today the more important feast of the Christmas season in most western Christian churches. One can only say for certain that the birth of Jesus Christ was being celebrated in Rome by the year 336 A.D.; afterwards the feast was celebrated in other Christian churches throughout the world.

Why it was celebrated on December 25th is another question. No date for the birth of Jesus can be found in the New Testament, which is concerned more with the question \"Who is Jesus?\" than the date of his birth.Early Christian speculation about his birth date was influenced by the symbolism of the changing seasons, then popular in religious thought, which paid careful attention to the equinoxes and solstices of the sun.Christian scholars speculated that Jesus was conceived at the spring equinox (March 25th) and therefore was born on December 25th, the date of the winter solstice.

In many of the Christian churches, March 25th is still the Feast of the Annunciation, when the Angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she was to be the mother of Jesus.

Poible impluse for the feast of Christmas may have came too from the establishment of the pagan feast of the \"Unconquered Sun-God\" by the Emperor Aurelian in 274 A.D.to be celebrated on December 25, the day of the winter solstice in Rome and throughout the empire. In response, Christians could celebrate the feast of the \"Sun of righteousne\" (Malachi 4,2), Jesus Christ, who called himself \" the light of the world.\"

(15)Christmas Day,the 25th of December,is the biggest festival(节日)celebrated in the Christian countries of the world.Although everyone enjoys Christmas Day,it is

6 particularly enjoyed by children, who get very excited because of the presents they know they are going to receive.Small children believe that their presents are brought by Father Christmas(圣诞老人).Father Christmas is a kind of old man who,the children are told, lives at the North Pole.He travels through the sky on a sleigh(雪撬) which is pulled by reindeers(驯鹿) and loaded with(装满) presents.Stopping on the roof of houses,he enters by climbing the chimney(烟囱).When small children go to bed on Christmas Eve,they hang a stocking at the end of their beds.Their parents warn them not to try to look at Father Christmas,or he will not leave them anything. When they wake, they find their stockings filled with presents.Children are very excited on Christmas morning and always wake up early.

Christmas is also a family celebration. As any members of the family as poible gather to eat, play party games and watch the special Christmas programmes on TV.
