Good evening,everyone.I feel it such a pleasure to stand here giving the speech.To begin with,please allow me to give a brief introduction to myself.

My name is lily,and I am from Henan province.There are four people in my family,my father,my mather,and I have a little brother who studies in senior high school now.I feel so happy to have such a happy family.As for my school life,I’m a freshman and my major is opto-electronic information,so I study a lot about math and physics,which makes me a little busy in the weekdays.However,I still enjoy many hobbies in my free time,for example,I often play badminton with my friends on weekends.Besides,learning English is also one of my favorites,I never consider it as a burden but an enjoyment in my study.

Today,the topic of my speech is”volunteer:the angel of the world.Nowadays,many people go for fame and fortune in their life and they consider it as the final purpose.However,if we only for the interest of our ourselves,then what’s the meaning of our life?what’s the purpose of our existence?So,today,I’d like to share with you something about my volunteer work.

I took part in our school’s Youth Volunteer Union after I went uni Until today,I still feel so lucky as a member of it,and I’d like to tell you about a program that I am responsible for.

There’s a primary school in Shunjiang district,which’s very near to our university.However,many students from this school are stay-at-home children,couse their parents are hundreds of thousands miles away,struggling to make money for the family.In this situation,the children are left at home.But their hands are so small that they can’t handle the problems in their daily life.Although their grandparents can look after them and offer them with good food and clothes,they can’t help with their study.In the long run,it’s poible for these children to fall behind or form some bad habits at school.What’s worse,they may develop some mental problem in their growth.

When I learned about this situation,Ifeel it a duty to offer some help as a university student,so we put up a post and wanted more students to join this program.Fortunately,many volunteers came to us and they are willing to offer helf to the primary school students.

Now,we volunteers go to Shunjiang primary school to help these studens regularly,and we also chat with them about many kinds of things.All we want is givng them a happy childhood and make them full of hope about their future.I’ll never forget one of the children’s grandma’s words.One day,after the activity,she grabbed my hand and said,”It’s you who helped my grandson made such progre in his study and I’m really grateful to you volunteers.In fact,we volunteers never respect any reward,couse the cildren’s bright innocent eyes and their charming smile

are the best for us.

At that time,I really feel that volunteer work is worth doing,you may think that it’s small and unneceary,but it can really make a difference to other people’s life.In a word,everyone can use his own powper to do something good for the people around him.We can’t only live for ourselves,just as an old saying goes,”Selfishne is the origin of evil.”So come on and do some volunteer work in your daily life,it can make our societ better and better and the good deed can warm everyone’s heart.And someday,you can see an angel called volunteer flying in the sky.

专家点评:引用文学大师的诗句作为开场白，与结束语首尾呼应，颇有感染力。东西方文化的融合表现得十分鲜明，意味深长，是篇优秀的演讲。 croing the sea good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen.the title of my speech today is croing the sea.an english poet by the name of rudyard kipling once wrote in his poem we and they: all the people like us are we and everyone else is they we live over the sea while they live over the way we eat pork and beef with cowhorn-handled knives they who gobble their rice off a leaf are horrified out of their lives. when these lines first caught my eyes, i was shocked-how could two peoples remain so isolated and ignorant of each other in the past? todays society, of course, is an entirely different picture.those people who used to eat with cowhorn-handled knives might be very skillful in using chopsticks, and those people who used to gobble their rice might be as well have taken to fish and chips. indeed, just take china as an example: our modern life has been influenced by western style of living in so many ways that its no longer surprising to see teenagers going crazy about rock-and-roll, whole families dining out at mcdonalds and even rather elderly people dreed in apple jeans. however, these are only some expreions of the cultural changes taking place in our society today.what is really going on is a subtle but significant restructuring of the nations mentality.just look around. it is therefore evident that we as descendants of an ancient eastern civilization are already living under strong inf1uence of the western culture.but it is not only in china that we find the incorporation of the two cultures. take the chinese acupuncture as another example: this traditional treatment of diseases is finally finding its way to the west and hence the underlying notion that illne is resulted from the imbalance between yin and yang within the body -- an idea which would strike any westerner as incredible in the past! ladies and gentlemen, we live in a great epoch when the global integration of economy and the information revolution have brought cultures of the world closer than ever before.we live in a particular era when countries, east and west, find themselves in need of readjusting their traditional values.we live, at the same time, at a critical juncture of our evolution because such problems as ethnic conflicts and regional unrest are increasingly posing a threat to the peace and happine of the whole human race.to cope with such an era and to embrace an even brighter therefore, it is our sacred responsibility to promote the cultural exchanges and hence the mutual understanding between china and the rest of the world. it is my happiest dream that the new generation of chinese will not only grow up drinking coca-cola and watching hollywood, but also be bleed with the far-reaching benefits of multiple cultures; benefits that our forefathers had never, ever dreamed of. to end my speech, i would like to quote rudyard kipling again: all the people like us are we and everyone else is they but once you cro over the sea you will end by looking on we as only a sort of they thank you. 译文:穿越海洋

needle to say, one of the biggest opportunities given to china is the XX olympic games.till now, we have used two sevenths of the preparation time.how much changes have you seen? new roads, new subway lines, public-exercising equipments with beautiful colors, large blocks of gra fields, and also lots of modern gyms which are under construction. other than those, there are even more good effects brought to us by the olympic games that cannot be seen directly.for example, more and more people will get to know china.i’m sure the mysterious chinese culture will attract them strongly.and the games will also do good to the economy and environment, for it is gaining the attention of foreign investors and the awarene of environmental protection is being strengthened.what is more, olympic games give a unique opportunity to inspire and educate a new generation of chinese youth with the olympic values and the olympic spirit.now that we have seen so many advances, could you even imagine us losing the holding rights? i’ve already said a lot about the olympics and china.but i think everyone should use some time to think of this question, ”does the olympic games have any special meaning to you?”

Living without globalization

Take a look at the street, we can see people walking around in Nike and Adidas ，beyond the curb, long lines of vehicles shuttle like wind on the tar among which there’re Mercedes-Benz ,BMW, Toyota ,and some of the Volkswagen whose price is definitely not so “volks” at all.They’re all heading for the same direction: the New Oriental School, coz the Olympics is around and learning English is currently the hottest way blowing away your after-work time and money in town.Everything about this picture is so global that you can hardly tell if it’s Bei Jing or Belgium.

However, there’s one grey speck on this splendid picture of globalization I just can’t shift my eyes away from.It’s a migrant worker covered with dirt.Pushing a large cart of bricks 5 times his own weight with his skinny arms, the man was about my age.His eyes hollow holes, for there’s nothing but the hardship of survival in there.Was he married? Was he smart? Did he go to middle school? Or perhaps primary school? Where was he from? Is there anyone waiting for him at home?

As we look out to globalization with great expectation, there’s also crisis lying within.But the crisis was not brought onto us from anywhere out there.It lies within our system and was made by ourselves.Some call it regional bias, some call it household permit system, but not matter what name it bears.It’s the same thing we see in this country: born a countryman, always a countryman.And countryman here is not just a nickname suggesting where you live.It means that you can’t have a lot of the basic public benefits like free compulsory education and medical insurance like the city men have.It means you would have to be times as outstanding as students from the metropolitans in exams to be admitted into good schools.In means, very much likely, in that migrant worker’s case, that you can work and live in the city honestly for 10 years but people still despises you because they think they are somehow superior.It’s true that globalization is all over the air, but despite it’s the same air that we breathe ,I wonder how many of them feel it even exsit.

Does learning to compete in the global era involve migrant workers? I believe few would think so.Because usually what we care about are things like trade surplus, intercultural communication and Paris Hilton.But does it not involve migrant workers?

Let’s make an interesting aumption here.Today, I see a lot of young faces in this building, in 10 years, many of us will have our children.And I suppose that in 10 years, the migrant worker I saw on the street the other day and many like him will have their children.I can’t help wondering with this globalization gap keep lying between the two of us, can my child work together with his children for the country in the future competition of the global era? And

will this country be able to win the competition without its rural people which takes up about 80% of its total population?

No! This situation must be changed! And the time is now! The long and weary journey to its final solution may take decades, or even centuries.But it starts with our little good will.If everyone in this room donate 10 yuan to the Hope project, we might be able to get the son of a migrant worker through junior school.By which we’re not only helping them but also helping ourselves.If we want to learn to compete with others, we’ll first have to learn to take care of our own man , and if we want to learn to live with globalization,we’ll first learn it, from those who live without it.

Milkman vs.Mailman

With the development of science and technology, change has penetrated into every aspect of our daily life.To illustrate that, I’d like to make a comparison of these two seemingly insignificant things: milkman and mailman, whose differences indicate our changing way of living with the times.

Home milk delivery has almost gone extinct in China now, also gone with it are the milkmen, who once delivered bottled fresh milk door-to-door.On the other hand, mailman’s busine or the courier service has thrived as online shopping gains popularity.However, in retrospect, I find something has been lost in this transition, something Shakespeare called as “the milk of human kindne”.

When I was a kid, milk wasn’t for sale everywhere.For the families who need it, they depended on the milkmen to take it from the local dairy farms to their houses.In our neighborhood, there was such a milkman, whose arrival was much anticipated by the children and always brought us laughter and joy.He knew the name of every kid and could easily see through our tricks.If we didn’t behave, he would side with our parents and threaten to rob us of the nutritious drink.The entire neighborhood was acquainted with him; saw him as a member of the community just like the many residents or street vendors.There was a bond between all of us for it was not only the commodities that been transacted, but also a sense of caring and dependability.And that small box fixed onto our door, other than being a drop-off point for milk; it was a communication junction between the people as we took the initiative to reach out to others.

Fast forward to today, milk is ubiquitous with no dedicated delivery system.But the convenience level of our live has gone up a notch.Almost everything is for sale online, which spares us all the travelling and talking.With a few ready clicks, shopping is done.The rest is left for those speed delivery companies.Usually it’s a grumpy mailman, who reaches us through cell phone, urging everyone to pick up their parcels as soon as poible.And the minute the receipt is signed, we rush back to unpack while the courier dashes to the next destination.There is barely a conversation carried out, nor do we feel the need to talk to such a stranger, who changes from time to time frequently.It seems that people are always in a hurry now, though we have more conveniences, still we run short of time to stop and stare, to speak and share.Call me an old-timer, but I think the personal touch represented by the milkman is what has been miing in the modern society.William Wordsworth once wrote that “Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers.” Modern technology may have multiplied our poeions or gave us more

conveniences, but we run the risk of reducing our values if we lay waste our power of interpersonal relationships.

Sports brings us together

Sports are more than competitions.To me, they mean growth under the care of others.I learned this the hard way.

I used to be very shy and often felt lonely.Although I did well in all the academic subjects, I was afraid of physical education.My clamates often laughed at me.

“Look at that girl,” they said.“Her feet don’t leave the ground when she runs!”

Their words embarraed me.Moreover, whenever the teacher organized some competitive games, no one in the cla liked to have me as their partner or team member.As a result, I often ended up looking at others enjoy their games.

Things would go on like that if not for a sports meet in my high school.By mistake, my name was put on the list of those who would compete in the

women’s 1500 meters race.By the time people found the mistake, it was too late to change.

My desk-mate was a natural athlete.She said to me, “I couldn’t run that race in your place, because I’ve signed up for three items already.” Other athletic girls of the cla said the same.

I was utterly dumbfounded.1500 meters! Running against the best runners from other claes! And in front of students of the entire school! It would be the worst nightmare I’d ever have!

“You still have time to catch up because there is still one month before the sports meet,” they all said this to me, including my teacher.

My desk-mate patted me on the shoulder, “Cool! You will run for our cla! And we will do training together.” Yes, this is not just for myself, but for my

cla too, I said to myself.But still, 1500 meters to me was like Mount Everest to a beginning climber.I had no idea even how to start my preparation.

Fortunately, my desk-mate gave me a hand.Every afternoon after cla, several of us ran together.When the fear of being laughed at struck me, I saw others running right beside me.They gave me strengths.While we were running, some others would stand by the tracks cheering for us.

One month certainly couldn’t make me a good runner.But when I was standing behind the start line, I no longer felt lonely or afraid.I saw my

clamates standing by the tracks waving at me as if about to run beside me.With the shot of the starting gun, I dashed out and ran as fast as I could, as if it were a 200-meter race.Soon I was out of breath and slowed down.Other runners paed me one by one, and gradually I had no idea how many of them were still behind me.My legs were getting heavier and heavier, and I might fall down at any moment.However, I suddenly heard my clamates chanting my name.My desk-mate even ran along the tracks beside me and cheered for me at the same time, just like the month-long training we did together.

As expected, I was almost the last to cro the finish line.Immediately, my clamates held my arms and urged me to walk on my feet and not to sit down.I was surrounded, with all kinds of drinks handed to me.I felt a kind of warmth I had never felt before.Even though I was almost the last to finish the race, I was full of confidence that I would improve in the future.

That sports meet was an unforgettable experience.The memory of my clamates cheering for me, holding my arms and handing me drinks stays fresh on my mind.Sports are no longer about winning or losing.They give me a lot of confidence, both confidence in my fellow students and confidence in my own potential.I am no longer lonely, no longer afraid.Sports have brought me close to my clamates and helped us grow together.

Now, I participate in the sports meet every year.Even if I am not

competing, I would help my clamates with their practice, just like the way my desk-mate and others ran with me.

First,I want to start with a queston:who\'s the first person that pops in your mind when you first heard the word creativity? Newton?Einstein?or just a friend of yours? Well when I first heard the word , it reminds me of Steve Jobs.

Steve Jobs ,who cofound the apple computer company with Steve Wozinac ,once said\"Creativity is just connecting things.When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something.

It seemed obvious to them after a while.That’s because they were able to connect experiences they’ve had and synthesize new things.And the reason they were able to do that was that they’ve had more experiences or they have thought more about their experiences than other people.

Steve Jobs died on Oct 5th at a age of 56.He lost the battle with cancer that he\'s been fighting for years.Apple and Mac computers, the ipod , the iphone, the ipad, all of them came from a company that Steve Jobs cofounded in his parent\'s garage.After Jobs dead,there once has a saying: the Amecicans still have Bills,but they lose their Jobs.I think this is the special way for the Americans to memorize their creative hero.

Steve Jobs is one of civilization’s greatest artists of all times.His creations will define how people do things for generations to come.Technology is just the substrate for his creative genius.

On top of other artists he was able to turn the practical into a form of art.He defined time and again whole new paradigms in harneing technology to the service of man, by coming time and again with products which provided superior user experience.He redefined how we make phone calls, watch videos, listen to music, use computers and much more.It is not engineering, it is not technology, it is the genius of an artist.

The world after Mr.Jobs, is like the renaiance after Leonardo da Vinci.Who knows how many more new great products ,or to be more precise, great experiences are still uncovered, un-mined , unsurfaced, undefined, un-brewed in his mind? But one thing we truely know is that Jobs\' Creativity has changed the world.

So as creativity is so important to our world.How to be more creative? A lot of us,however, are under the impreion that we have no creativity in us , well I think that is wrong.

Creativity can mean absolutely anything, if you come up with an idea and follow it through you have created something,just like me,I wrote an article to make a speech in front of you ,simple as that! You don`t have to paint a masterpiece write a blockbuster novel to cla yourself as creative, even the simplest thing like cooking a meal for your family means that from a

bunch of ingredients you have created a delicious meal for your family.Unlocking our own creativity is a fabulous journey of discovery, as it may be in a completely different area to where you thought it would be.

Don`t let yourself be held back by your lack of confidence in your abilities, we all have a creative streak it is simply a case of finding the outlet for it.Let your artistic juices flow freely and before you know it you will be surprising yourself with your newfound creativity.Thank you!

The other day I had a call with a friend who went to study in the US.She told me excitedly, “Everything here is tagged Made in China.But I sensed some disappointment in her voice.I haven’t found any Chinese brand so far.It seems that China only produces other people’s stuff.Her words were thought provoking.China, as the world’s factory, performs only the manufacturing segment for foreign brands.“Made in China” has even become a symbol of cheap products.It’s been said that China has to export 800 million shirts to get an airplane.What we are miing is sustainable competence that comes from trademarks, patents and designs.China can only gain a cutting edge in the global arena, of our enterprises move up the value chain and create products of their own.This transformation will be no le like a marathon.Luckily, some Chinese enterprises are already in busine or the long run.They point the way for other enterprises with three strategies: brand identity, innovation of technology and modern management systems.The first strategy was to establish brand identity, which is a company’s personality.The Lenovo Group, the third largest PC maker in the world, was originally known as the Legend Group.When it entered the global market, it found the name Legend was too ordinary and frequently used.The company knew how important it was to establish a brand that would make it stand out.Thus it changed its name into Lenovo, taking what means new in Latin-novo.Now this unique brand is widely recognized around the globe.What follows is the innovation of technology.It can free Chinese enterprises from their dependency on foreign technology and increase added value of their products.Haier, the third largest, largest household appliances maker in the world owes its succe to constant innovation.Over the last 16 years, Haier has invested over 7 billion RMB in technological development.Up till now, Haier still meets its goal by creation over one new product a day, maintaining its upper-hand in the global competition.The fundamental strategy is to establish mechanisms that ensure a smooth transition.Nowadays, modern management system have produced overwhelming advantage.They can ensure efficient division of labor and vitality in the busine cycle.The New Hope Group, an originally family-owned busine, found itself trapped by the limitation and inefficiency of being run by family members together.After the enterprise turned itself into a limited liability company that distributed shares efficiently, its busine started to flourish and became the national leading enterprise for agriculture.China’s growth will not stop merely at manufacturing.With brand identity, innovation of technology and modern management systems, Chinese enterprises will stand strong in the global competition.I believe that one day, my friend in the US together with all the Chinese people around the world, will proudly find abundant products tagged “Created in China” in the global
