这一册主要讲述了海狮的故事。讲述了一个海狮要参加圣诞晚会，但他没有东西可以表演，他看见伙伴们练习的非常快乐，很羡慕。他的伙伴们也帮助他、鼓励他，他始终海狮没下起决心。到了圣诞晚会那一天，他看他的伙伴们表演，总觉得都很简单，结果都把伙伴的节目搞砸了，为此，他非常惭愧。但他最终也找到了自己的强项。
这册书既让我们增强阅读能力，也告诉我们一个道理，那就是要发想自己的长处，让自己这个长处无限延长，并发挥出来，就可以把事情做得很好。而且我还想起了一件事。
小学时，我是班级公认的数学天才，因为我始终是很强，小学时就学到了初三的课程，我也知道这是我的长处，所以我不断地延长，发挥，但最终我骄傲了，也许是这个原因吧，我数学的傲气始终不能下降一点，小学也是，初中也是，所以这用告诉了我们不要让自己这个长处使自己骄傲。

Black Dan
Stevie’s father had a new job as a forest warden, so they moved to a tiny cottage on the edge of a thick forest.At here,they met Black Dan, which was a racing greyhound left by Old Billy, the former forest warden.
The forester told them that Old Billy had seven greyhounds ever and Black Dan was the seventh.Stevie begged his father to keep it.
The first night was spooky.Stevie heard a weird noise which sounded like a dog howling and he also saw six pairs of red, fiery eyes in the forest through his bedroom window.Black Dan, the seventh was desperate to get out when he heard the howl.
The next day, Stevie told his father about his strange experience but his father didn’t care about it.Then Stevie took Black Dan the seventh for a run in the forest and they met the forester.He told him that the other Black Dans were killed by Old Billy just because they were too old to win the races.Steven start to doubt whether the six pairs of eyes were the ghost dogs.
At that night, the howl appeared again.Black Dan the seventh ran into the forest crazily.But soon, Stevie found that he was surrounded by six ghost dogs and Black Dan the seventh.He was so scared and tried to escape.He ran into an old mine but the dogs
were still following.He kept running until he reached the very edge of a mine shaft.But he couldn\'t stop himself then.Just when he was falling down the hole, Black Dan sopped him and pulled him back.Then he got up and went out of the tunnel and got home with Black Dan guarding him all the way.Black Dan became the hero who had saved his life.
I feel there is one poibility that the other six Black Dans didn’t die because they didn’t eat the poisoned meat or didn’t eat enough poisoned meat to kill themselves.Instead, they hid themselves somewhere in the forest and waited one day to revenge.
Stevie is the main character of the story.His kindne made him keep the dog.He was curious so he parted his bedroom curtains and saw six fiery eyes.His mind of ghost dogs showed he was good at imagining.He showed his bravery when the tough words came out from him mouth.
After all, if Stevie did not have so much excellent personalities, this story would not be so attractive.
And this story tells us to be kind to animals.

首都师范大学附属育新学校中学部初二年级学生在上《典范英语》课
作为当今世界上最主要的国际通用语之一，英语已经成为人们融入现代社会、参与国际交往所不可或缺的素养与能力。在我国，英语学习的重要性早已得到社会的普遍认同，许多家长在孩子学龄前就开始让他们接触和学习英语。作为学生智力发育与知识增长的重要阶段——中小学阶段的英语学习更是受到了广大教师和家长的高度重视。然而，由于应试教育的长期影响，我国英语教学普遍存在以机械式、填鸭式教学为主的弊端，讲授和学习的往往是关于语言的知识，而不是语言的真实运用，更忽视了语言背后所蕴含的人文属性，最终导致学生学习兴趣下降、学习动力不足、学习效果大打折扣。
这种因缺乏先进的教育理念、科学的教学方法以及合理的教学内容所导致的教育弊端已日渐显现，并且受到教育主管部门和各级教育机构的高度重视。转变落后的教育观念，选用科学的教学材料，探索全新的教育模式，成为摆在各级教育机构面前的当务之急。《国家中长期教育改革和发展规划纲要（2010-2020年）》就明确提出，全面推进素质教育，是摆在全国教育工作者，特别是基础教育工作者面前的重大任务。
为扭转当前事倍功半的英语教育困局，国内一些知名英语教育专家在中小学开展了语感阅读实验研究，通过让学生大量阅读原汁原味的英文故事和文学读本，激发他们学习英语的兴趣，培养他们的英语语感，提升他们的英文素养。《典范英语》因此应运而生。经过几年的实验研究，全国数百所实验基地捷报频传。一个个生动鲜活的案例，一份份令人惊喜的成绩，无不让人们看到这套原汁原味的阅读材料对学生英文素养的全面提升所起到的重要作用。
保定市第十七中学是国内较早开展阅读实验的学校之一，该校经过四年多的教学实验，彻底扭转了英语教学的滑坡状态，中考英语成绩连年攀升，2012年平均分比该市第二名高出了25.12分（2008年平均分比该市第二名仅高出1.3分）。在各类英语竞赛中，该校学生的成绩也捷报频传。2009年以来，该校先后有12名学生在“希望之星”口语大赛中获“河北省特等奖”，15名学生获“电视英语大赛”河北省特等奖。2010年，继房倩瑶同学获得ACTS大赛口语、笔试两个特别金奖之后，该校共有15名学生因获全国比赛金奖以上奖项而获得赴美就读名校高中的资格。
通过接触生动有趣、纯正地道的语言材料，该校学生真正爱上了英语阅读。他们不再是被老师逼着背单词、记句型、抠语法、做习题，而是主动翻开阅读材料，沉浸在英语学习的海洋之中，从中学到许多做人的道理，了解中西文化的差异，就连发音也明显更有英国味了。2011年11月，英国Dame Allan’s School校长John Hint访问保定十七中，在与学生互动交流后不禁赞叹：“保定十七中的学生太出色了，我差点忍不住要大声说，孩子们快来我们学校做交换生吧，你们太出色了！”
胡昕阳是该校2009级18班的学生，也是2012年保定市中考状元。在小学时，他所在的学校英语教学不够有特色，但自从进入保定十七中后，他的英语学习兴趣大为增强，一口气从《典范英语》第一级读到了第九级，英语成绩也一路突飞猛进。胡昕阳说：“这套材料和以往英语教材最大的不同在于，一是‘纯正’，二是‘有趣’。它是英国学生学习母语的材料，语言地道，词汇和句型难度循序渐进，抛开了枯燥无味的课文学习和语法练习，将语言知识蕴含在生动有趣的故事和引人入胜的小说中，真正让英语阅读成为了一种乐趣而不是一种学习形式。”
首都师范大学附属育新学校作为北京市教育科研先进校，整体教研氛围浓厚，教育理念超前。但随着课程改革的推进，该校英语教学一度陷入“平原区”： 教师、学生、家长在英语方面的投入越来越大，收效却不明显。由于教学效率低，学校的英语成绩一路下滑，中考英语成绩甚至滑到了海淀区第15名。对此，校领导高度重视，经过广泛的前期调研，于2007年开始进行阅读实验。经过五年多的探索与实践，该校英语教学成功突破了“停滞期”，教学成效逐年突显。2012年中考，该校英语成绩高出海淀区平均分8分多，排名从之前的第15名上升到前10名，在同水平学校中遥遥领先。同时，学生参加美国高中入学测试，半数以上合格。在满分67分的情况下，该校有的学生考了65分。
成功拿到美国蓝山中学（The Blue Ridge School）录取通知书的罗儒哲同学的父亲说：“申请美国高中要求考SLEP，罗儒哲第一次考就得了55分。这主要得益于育新学校的一个重要教学举措，那就是一入学就让孩子阅读《典范英语》。这种原版教材的阅读究竟对孩子的影响有多大，通过SLEP考试一下子就看出来了。由于这套教材是原汁原味的英语母语学习材料，与美国的SLEP考试十分切合，因此当别的孩子需要‘饿补’英语的时候，罗儒哲却能利用平时的积累轻松过关。”
金华外国语学校在开展语感阅读实验后取得了令人瞩目的好成绩，200

11、2012届中考英语平均分分别达到117分、116分、116分、116分。这样的成绩引起了教育界同行的高度关注，学校张春良副校长在介绍经验时指出：“英语教学不仅是提高学生英语听、说、读、写几种语言技能的‘工具性’教学，而且是基于文学读本的有意义、有思想的‘人文性’教学。《典范英语》就是这样一套能满足两个方面需要的好教材。”笔者了解到，该校邵雨时同学2012年参加雅思考试取得了8分的优异成绩。
一份份满意的答卷，一个个成功的案例，增强了学生学好英语的信心，更吸引了全国上百所中小学校加入到这场阅读实验当中。其中，在农村中学里最早开展阅读实验的江苏省海安县曲塘中学的案例特别鼓舞人心。作为只有普通生源的一所农村中学，曲塘中学经过3年的阅读实践，在2012年高考中，英语实验班平均分达到了97分，比江苏省平均分高出27分，英语学科从过去的“拖后腿”变成了现在的“领头羊”，学生从厌倦上英语课转变为盼望上英语课，学校的“典范英语”课程也被评为南通市优秀校本课程。2012年高考英语取得117分（满分120分），创造曲塘中学历史上英语最高分的丁诗雅同学说：“这套阅读材料通过故事、小说来提升我们的英语阅读水平，生动的故事情节有效调动了我们学习英语的兴趣，纯正的英文让我们对英语的感觉也不再枯燥。每次典范英语课都让我们很期待！”
通过对参加实验的小学进行走访，笔者发现故事性、趣味性成为小学教师和学生最常提及的字眼。深圳市民治第二小学的学生侯润宁告诉笔者，“‘典范’故事深深吸引了我，尤其是和魔法钥匙的冒险让我深深入迷。读着读着，我发现这把钥匙叫做‘想象’。”该校胡晓玲老师从2010年开始进入《典范英语》的教学，她表示，“现在对于我，课堂更多的是一种享受，我越来越热爱教学工作。能和孩子一起讲故事，看孩子演故事，听孩子说自己改编的故事，我觉得真是太幸福了！”
无论是中学还是小学，学生在阅读实验教材后的收获是显而易见的，他们不仅掌握了语言技能，更收获了终身受益的学习能力和语言素养。根据中央教育科学研究所南山附属学校2012年的问卷调查，该校的学生都对《典范英语》内容感兴趣，大部分学生在课余时间会自行阅读《典范英语》，认为通过《典范英语》能了解更多的英语文化知识。由此可见，《典范英语》以其独有的魅力征服了学生。 在笔者的采访过程中，见到了许多为学生的进步而感到欣慰的老师，也遇到许多因孩子的成长而感到欣喜的家长。他们纷纷表示，希望把这些成功经验同大家分享，让更多的中小学校接触到这套理念先进、内容有趣、语言地道的阅读材料收获英语学习的快乐和成功，成为同英语母语国家的孩子一样“能说会道”、“能读会写”的国际化人才。

A sign outside the Town Hall said, ‘Grand Wrestling Competition．’

The doors of the dreing room swung open.
‘And here she is, “cried the referee.“The darling of the ring.Fairplay Fiona!’
A cheer went up from the crowd.Fiona,dreed in pink,came into the hall.Her blonde hair streamed behind her.With one leap she jumped over the top rope and landed in the ring.
She waved to the crowd and blew them kies.The crowd stood and clapped.They wanted Fiona to win.
The referee spoke again.
‘And her opponent for tonight is...’
The dreing room doors smashed open.One door came off its hinges.
‘Her terrible twin sister.Big Bertha the Bone Cruncher!’
Bertha, dreed in black, came into the hall.Her red hair streamed behind her.She shook her.She took a flying leap into the ring.She shook her fist.The crowd booed.They wanted Bertha to lose.The referee turned to check his watch.
Bertha grabbed Fiona and threw her against the ropes.
The crowd yelled at the referee.
Bertha raced back to her corner.The referee turned round.
‘I haven’t done anything wrong.‘Shouted Bertha.
The fight had begun.
Fiona bounced back with a flying drop kick.
The crowd stood up,cheering.
Bertha pickd up Fiona and spun her above her head.
The crowd booed.
So it went for five rounds.

The crowd cheered Fina.They booed Bertha.
That night Bertha and Fiona sat at home drinking cocoa.
‘I thought the fight went very well.’
‘Hum,’said Bertha.
‘You’re not upset about the flying tail spin?’
‘No.’
‘The drop kick in round two?’
‘Then why are you in such a bad mood?’
Bertha began to cry.
‘What’s the matter?’asked Fiona.
‘Couldn’t we change?’said Bertha.‘ You could be＂Fearsome Fiona＂.I could be＂Big-Hearted Bertha＂.
‘Don’t be silly said Fiona.’Besides,you are good at being bad.’
‘You could teach me how to be good,’said Bertha,’And I could teach you how to be bad.’‘No!’said Fiona.’What would my fans think?’
Bertha fights back
Next Friday morning,after breakfast,the twins went into the front room.
They put the table and chairs in a pile at one end of the roon.They moved the television,the goldfish bowl and their books into the kitchen.
When the room was completely clear,Fiona said,‘Ready?’
‘Ready, ‘said Bertha.
Then the twins began to fight.Bertha threw Fiona acro the room.Fiona did a perfect cartwheel and landed lightly on her feet.
The twins always practised for the fight on Friday night.Both twins were very skilled at wrestling.They worked hard to make sure they could do their moves without hurting each other.When they had finished practising they had to tidy the cottage and have lunch.The twins liked cooking but they hated housework.They toed a coin to see who should tidy up.
‘Heads.’said Bertha.
‘Tails.’said Fiona.‘I win.’
So Bertha had to move all the things from the kitchen back into the front room.Then she had to put the table and chairs back in the middle of the room.Meanwhile,Fiona cooked lunch.
After lunch Bertha slipped quietly into the bathroom and locked the door.Bertha rinsed her hair with her sister’s blonde hair colour.She looked in the mirror and smiled.Her hair was now blonde hair colour.She looked in the mirror and smiled.Her hair was now blonde, just like Fiona’s.She poured the rest of the blonde hair colour down the sink.Then she filled the bottle with some of her red hair colour.
Fiona tapped on the door.
‘Hurry up in there, ‘replied Bertha.
‘I must colour my hair before I go jogging, ‘said Fiona.
Bertha came out of the bathroom.She had a towel wrapped around her head.
‘I feel much better,’said Bertha.’I’ve left the bathroom tidy.’
‘Look at the time,’said Fiona,’I shall be late.’
Flona dashed into the bathroom.She splashed on her hair colour.She was in such a hurry that she did not look in the mirror.
‘Have a lovely run,’said Bertha.
Fiona jogged down the road.
She ran through the park.Fiona saw a little kitten sitting on a wall.
‘Hello, little kitty.’
She stretched out to stroke the kitten.The kitten ran up a tree.
A policeman was paing by.
‘I saw you frighten that kitten.What an unkind thing to do.’
‘I only tried to stroke it, ‘mumbled.Fiona.
She jogged on towards the playgroud,Some children were playing on the swings.
‘Would you like a push?’she called.
The children took one look at Fiona.They jumped off the swings and ran away.
The part keeper raced up.
‘What do you think you are doing?You were chasing those children.Go and chase someone your own size.’
Fiona ran off.
Fiona stopped for a rest outside the supermarket.An old lady was pushing her trolley towards the door.
Fiona ran over to help.She held open the door.
‘After you,’she said.
‘It’s a trick.You are going to shut the door in my face,’said the old lady.
The manager arrived.
‘Stop frightening my customers.Clear off before I call the police.’
Fiona could not understand it.She jogged sadly back to the cottage.
Bertha was in the garden.
‘What have you done to your hair?’cried Fiona.
‘Do you like it?’asked Bertha.
‘It’s blonde.That’s my hair colour,’said Fiona.
‘Is it really?’said Bertha.She took a mirror from her pocket.She held it up to Fiona.‘My hair!’screamed Fiona.‘It’s red!But that’s your colour.’
‘I know.’said Bertha.
‘Everybody will think that I am you.’said Fiona.
‘That’s right.’giggled Bertha.
‘I will have to do my hair all over again.’said Fiona.
‘You can’t.’said Bertha.
‘Why not?’asked Fiona.
‘Because I tipped your hair colour down the sink.’said Bertha.
‘But we are due at the Town Hall in ten minutes.’moaned Fion.‘What are we going to do?’

The Town Hall was packed with people waiting to see the big fight.
The referee stepped forward.
‘Ladies and gentlemen.In the red corner.Fairplay Fiona.’
Bertha,dreed in pink with her blonde hair flying,raced forward and jumped into the ring.She waved to the crowd..Everybody cheered.
‘And in the blue corner is that monster of the ring,Big Bertha the ring.She shook her fist at Bertha.
The crowd thought that she was shaking her fist at them.They booed.
The fight began.Fiona and Bertha gripped each other by the shoulders.
‘How do you like being the bad one?’hied Bertha.
‘It’s horrible.’said Fiona.’Everybody wants me to lose.’
‘Now you know how I feel,’whispered Bertha.’Right.I’m going to throw you over my shoulder.’
And that is just what she did.The crowd cheered.Bertha waved at the crowd and smiled.
‘And the winner is Fairplay Fiona.’Bertha,with blonde gair and dreed in pink,waved.The crowd cheered.
The two sisters sat in the dreing room as the crowd went home.
‘I don’t know why you’re looking so pleased with yourself,’said Fiona.
‘Because I won.’said Bertha.
‘Butyou didn’t win,’said Fiona.’The referee said that the winner was Fairplay Fiona.And that’s me.’
‘Oh,’said Bertha.
There was a knock on the door.
‘Come in.’called Fiona.
A little man carrying an enormous bunch of flwers slid shyly into the dreing room.
‘I’ve brought some flowers for Fiona.’he said/
‘How man walked past Fiona and handed the flowers to Bertha.
‘I’d just like to say.’he said,‘that you are my favuorite wrestler.’
Then he went very red and ran out of the room.
‘Hey.’said Fiona.’He said those flowers were for me.’
‘Oh no,’said Bertha.‘He gave them to me.’
‘Really,’snapped Fiona.‘This is absolutely ridiculous.’
‘I’ve been thinking,’said Bertha.‘I have an idea that should keep everybody happy.’
‘Let’t hear it then.’said Fiona.
‘Every Friday,’said Bertha,‘we to a coin to see which one of us dyes their hair red and which one of us dyes their hair red and which one dyes their hair blonde.’
‘No,’said Fiona,‘I can’t agree to that.’
‘In that case,’said Bertha,‘I shall keep my hair blonde.Then we can both be Fairplay Fiona.Nobody will come to watch two Fionas fighting.So we wonn’t ge paid.Then we will have to sell the cottage.Then..’
‘All right,all right,’sighed Fiona,‘I agree.’

The Pancake
教学目标：
1、知识目标：学生了解学习有关做pancake（烙饼）的需要厨具、原材料的英文单词：pancake,the frying pan, flour,eggs, milk, butter.
