Now，I’ll tell you a story.The name is The Grateful Statues.Once upon a time, long ago in Japan, there lived an old man and an old woman.They were very poor.The old man had to go to the village to sell the cloth, becausethey didn’t have any money for New Year’s feast.
‘Nicely woven cloth for sale!’ said the old man.A villager stopped and feels the cloth,”This cloth is not quite the color I’m looking for.I’m sorry, but I don’t think I’ll get any.Happy New Year!’
The old man didn’t sell any cloth.
On the way home, he saw a row of six statues covered with snow.They called them Jizo in Japan.He wrapped his cloth and his own jacket on the six Jizo.At night, the Jizo went to the old man and the old women’s house, and chanted,
‘With a yo-ho-ho.And a big heave-ho.We carry you gifts .Through the snow.’
The gratefulJizo gave the poor old couple a bascket of rice cakes for New Year.
