The Prevalence of Western Holidays

The Prevalence of Western Holidays

Many young people in China today prefer Western holidays to traditional Chinese festivals.Christmas is now celebrated by the younger generation all over China, and it has become especially popular as a romantic holiday for boyfriends and girlfriends or young married couples.Valentine\'s Day is also extremely popular, and even Halloween is being celebrated now.

This phenomenon has actually developed quite naturally in recent decades due to our educational system\'s focus on English study and therefore on English-speaking cultures. To many students, Western culture has become a symbol of self-expreion and freedom from restraint.Celebrating Western holidays has become a way for students to expre their love of something different from traditional Chinese culture, and to have fun together with their own generation.

In my opinion, it\'s fine for students learning English and studying

English-speaking cultures to celebrate Western holidays with their teachers and clamates. However, the way I see it, unle the young people later go abroad to live in those cultures, there is no reason for them to continue to celebrate them.We Chinese should hold on to our traditional festivals, the festivals which we have celebrated for centuries.

directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition entitled My Thoughts on the University Arts Festival. You should write at least 120 words following the outline given below in Chinese:

1.表达你对即将举行的大学艺术节的看法;

2.对艺术节具体内容和组成部分的建议。

My Thoughts on the University Arts Festival

My Thoughts on the University Arts Festival

For our university\'s arts festival, I think that the university should hold open competitions and auditions for anyone who wants to take part in the festival\'s

exhibitions and performances. This would not only increase general interest in and appreciation for the arts, but would also be a good way for our university to show its support for the arts.

This arts festival is an excellent opportunity to remind everyone that arts are important for everyone to appreciate and take part in, regardle of major.

I think that there should be general, open auditions and competitions in all the major arts. There should be categories for painting and sculpture; claical, folk and modem dance; and instrumental and choral groups, both large and small. The judges should be joint committees made up of both faculty and Students, both experts in the field and novices.Arranging the festival in this way will, I believe, give our student body a greater enjoyment of the arts, a break from studies and a fuller appreciation for what it means to be human.

为什么尊重是很重要?(Why Respect Is Important?)

why respect is importantgoing back in time, respect played an important role in survival.if we think of a small tribe wandering in the desert,we can imagine that a person not respected by anyone could be left behind and die.such a person was considered to have no worth, no importance, no value to the group.

this, i believe is the foundation of our psychological need to feel respected.nowadays it seems much more poible to survive without being respected.someone could, for example, inherit a large sum of money, have many servants and employees and have salesmen constantly calling on him and catering to him,yet not be respected in the least.someone could also make a lot of money through having a particular talent which is valued, such as being able to dunk a basketball yet not really be respected, perhaps because of the way he treats others.

still, there is a value to respect which money can't buy.

though someone's life might not depend on it, there are times, many times in fact, when another person has the chance to make a personal decision--a judgment call.when that person feels sincere respect for someone else, they will make a different decision than if they feel no respect, even if they have customarily shown a false, pseudo-respect to the person.

in summary, it is for both evolutionary and practical reasons that respect is important, and also why we simply feel better when we are respected.

领导力

what is leadership?its qualities are difficult to define.but they are not so difficult to identify.leaders don ' t force other people to go along with them.they bring them along.

leaders get commitment from others by giving it themselves, by building an environment that encourages creativity, and by operating with honesty and fairne.good leaders aren' t\"lone rangers.\"they recognize that an organization' s strategies for succe require the combined talents and efforts of many people.leadership is the catalyst for transforming those talents into results.succeful leaders are emotionally and intellectually oriented to the future--not wedded to the past.they have a hunger to take responsibility, to innovate, andto initiate.they are not content with merely taking care of what' s already there.they want to move forward to create something new.

leaders provide answers as well as direction, offer strength as well as

dedication, and speak from experience as well as understanding of the problems they face and the peopie they work with.

leaders are flexible rather than dogmatic.they believe in unity rather than yielding.and they strive to achieve agreements out of conflict.leadership is all about getting people consistently to give their best, helping them to grow to their fullest potential, and motivating them to work toward a common good.leaders make the right things happen when they're supposed to.

a good leader, an effective leader, is one who has respect.respect is something you have to have in order to get.a leader who has respect for other people at all levels of an organization, for the work they do, and for their abilities, desires and needs, will find that respect is returned.and all concerned will be motivated to work together.
