Contemporarily, with the booming economy and far-reaching globalization, our society is changing swiftly, thus bringing us tremendous changes in some old manners and customs. Is it a bleing or curse? From my perspective, it is not a simple “Yes/No” question. I shall look into it in the following paragraphs.
Initially, when it comes to the merits of keeping old folkways, the following points are obvious. For one thing, traditionally speaking, it is a must to maintain some glorious and valuable conventions of our nation. For another, a number of old habits like family-centered norms help us get together more with family members and enjoy the intimate family atmosphere.
Secondly, despite the above strong points, keeping some old social norms and habits is sometimes negative. To begin with, the rejection of modern ways of wearing equals the denial of stylish suits.Just imagine years ago the whole Chinese nation wore the same color (gray or blue), in uniform style.Additionally, if we cannot change our living habits, we may refuse the benefits and convenience brought by technology advance.A case in point is that with modern technology, it has made it poible for individuals to contact one another easily by using smart phones, and globalization makes the world a global village, and thus the “villagers” can conveniently exchange ideas, cultures, etc.so that they help each other live a more meaningful life.
To sum up, I am under no illusions that there are more than a few benefits to keep old customs and habits, whereas it may also bring some negative social effects without changing them.Bleing or curse? Different angels lead to different perspectives.
