I hear you are very unhappy these days because your parents can‘t afford to buy you some brand-name shoes and garments you like very much.And I write you this letter to share with you what I think about this matter.
To begin with， beauty is just skin deep.Don‘t you think it silly to pay so much attention to your appearance？ He is a shallow person who judges others by their appearance； in the same sense， he is a shallow person who thinks that a brand-name garment can add to his glamour.So please， just forget about those brand-name things.What really matters is not whether you wear brand-name shoes or garments but whether your clothes fit you.As a student， you have to wear the school uniform on the weekdays and to be honest， you look very smart in it.Then why do you have to bother to buy the expensive brand-name things？
Secondly， I know your parents are both average workers.Hard as they work， they don‘t earn much.Despite this， they do their best to give you a lot of things on demand.Look at the callus on their hands and wrinkles on their faces， how can you have the heart to ask for more than they can afford， which will surely break their hearts？ Remember， parents don’t owe us expensive summer camps； they don‘t owe us Sony Walkman； nor do they owe us Nike shoes， If you really want those fancy things， you should take a part-time job to contribute to their purchase rather than ask your parents for money to add to their already heavy burden.Don’t you think so？
Thirdly， we have such a wide variety of things available these days which are both nice and inexpensive.What‘s the point of paying much more for those brand-name things that are not much better？ My friend， take my advice， and you’ll be a wiser consumer as well as a more considerate child to your parents.
Poverty， sometimes， is a good thing.It can test a person‘s character and it makes a man out of a boy faster than anything else.Keep working hard， and you are bound to be able to afford those things in the near future.Now you may as well focus on your study.Anyway， wouldn’t it be funny for a would-be achiever to be so preoccupied with brand-name things all day long？

Judging from the smiles on their faces, they must be very happy, relaxed and free. This reminds me of my primary school days, which was totally different from theirs.As far as I can remember, my teachers as well as my parents always told me to keep quiet and sit straight in cla, not to do anything without the
teacher’s permiion, including smiling and speaking out our viewpoints freely.I did as I was told. Frankly speaking, I’m fond of the atmosphere in western claes.But on the other hand, I still treasure the strict discipline learned when I was young.As a matter of fact, I think it is different cultures that make different claes and also different students.I am glad to see that the education of China is undergoing a significant reform, which aims to reduce students’ learning burden and encourage students to be more imaginative and creative.I firmly believe that in the near future more and more Chinese students will enjoy a free and open claroom atmosphere.192 2.
As is described in the picture, a group of foreign students are raising their hands to give answers to the question in a joyful and active way.The purpose of the picture is to show us how active the cla performance is in the foreign country.
Compared with the cla performance in local China, the difference is quite obvious.We Chinese students stay quiet in cla, keep taking notes and listen to what teacher is talking in a careful way.
I ask myself what causes lead to the phenomenon? Why cla performance of Chinese students is quite different from that of foreign students? Poible reasons can be listed as follows.Most important of all, education system in China is the key reason.The first day we become the primary student, our teachers tell us to obey the rules in cla.We put our hands back and stay quiet in cla.Lecture-model teaching is the traditional way in Chinese cla.Teacher is the leading actor or actre and student is always the supporting roles.Gradually we get into the habit of staying quiet in cla and lose the ability to raise questions and give the answers. The second point to be mentioned is that Chinese students hold different attitudes toward study.In our minds, we always think what we should learn instead of how we should learn knowledge in a smart way.We behave us as a paive listener, but foreign student act as a active learner.
As a saying goes, it is better to teach to fish rather than give a fish.Taking what has been discued above into account, there is no doubt that we need to think it over whether we are supposed to be a learner or a quiet listener.193 2009 •
It is said that a summer camp is to be held by your school and a few courses are available to choose from.I am interested in gardening, in that I believe it features my character and personal benefits.•
During the learning period, I expect to gain some unexpected knowledge.A radical technique I’d like to obtain is to know how to tell difference species of plants and flowers apart.This helps me to have a clearer outlook of those in my garden.Furthermore, the proper cutting time and frequency to water are some other skills I want to learn.A little knowledge concerning choosing suitable soil or reasonable positions will also be a good choice.• The main reason why I choose gardening is that I want to help my parents with their work in the domestic garden.In addition, I find that we students generally lack the knowledge of gardening, miing a chance to have a word with nature, so that knowing the surroundings is imperative.Last but not least, by attending the courses, I will have a meaningful summer vacation, and drowning myself between plants will by all means add a brilliant touch to my life.200 2008 1.A group dancing competition will be held in our school and the monitor calls on everybody to take an active part in it.While most of my clamates are still hesitating whether to participate, I have said yes to our monitor with great pleasure.
Generally speaking, there are two reasons for my decision.First, it is a good opportunity for me to relax myself, which will enable me to study more efficiently.All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, so goes the saying, which clearly shows us the importance of relaxation.Besides, I think I am a good dancer after learning dance for more than five years.Participating in the contest will be a golden chance for me to show my dancing skills and make some contributions to the cla.
For the two reasons mentioned above, it is no surprise that I have such a strong enthusiasm for the group dancing competition.155
2.Today the monitor calls on everybody to take an active part in the group dancing competition which will be held in a couple of days in our school.But after some careful consideration, I have decided not to participate.
There are a number of reasons for my decision.First and foremost, as the College Entrance Exam is just around the corner, study is the top priority for me.Participating in the group dancing competition has to give way because it might take me too much time.What’s more, without any experience of dancing, I don’t think I can be a good dancing partner.I am afraid my poor dancing skills will probably spoil the performance of the whole cla.In this case, it’s better for me to be a spectator cheering for my clamates.
For these reasons, it seems more appropriate for me to watch the competition than to dance myself.151 2007
A Present for Father’s Day
The Father’s Day will come soon.and I want to give my Dad a present.That is a VIP card of a health club.When I was a little boy, Dad worked hard as a teacher.During term, Mother and I sometimes accompanied Dad in his office till a late hour.From then on, I understood that Dad worked with great effort.There are still too many precious memories which I’ll cherish in my heart.And I want to give this present to expre my thanks to him. Time flies and I’m 18 now.As I grow up, Father is getting older.He is now still diving into piles of books.With the health club membership, I hope that he will set aside some time to do more exercise.I think that he will relax in the health club and make more friends as well.150 2.
It is widely acknowledged that a good present is of great value to a person and even prone to change his or her life.As for me , one of the most impreive presents I have given to my friends is a watch which I have used for three years.
The watch was given to Tom, who is one of my best friends.Diligent and warm-hearted as he is , he sometimes has no sense of time, which causes him to be late for many things and leads to some trouble in work.By giving him such a watch, I hope he will pay more attention to punctuality, which may bring him more credibility in life and higher efficiency in both work and study.Besides, he used to tell me that he might feel lonely in the new environment after leaving the old friends in high school, and thus I hope that such a gift will remind him of the good old days we happily spent together and help him to feel better when he mies me.

Of the two universities listed above, I prefer the one in the north.The main reason is that the tuition is only 5,000 RMB for the university a year, compared with 8,000 RMB for the university in the south.This makes a big difference for a family like a mine, because my father is peasant and the only breadwinner in the family.Studying at the northern university can save my father big money.
Another reason I take into consideration is the preference policy the northern university offers.Any candidate who chooses to study there may gain an extra 20 points, which greatly raises the poibility of my being admitted to this university.Of course, it doesn\'t mean that it will be quite easy to pa the entrance exam because this university has limited the number of qualified candidates to 10 only.However, I have been doing quite well in school, so I believe I can pa the entrance exam with flying colors.162 2.
Compared with the northern university, the southern one is more to my liking.It is true that in terms of tuition the former is 3,000 RMB cheaper than the latter.However, that\'s not a problem to me because I can work my way through college once I get admitted.What counts is the reputation it has.Once I enter this school, my future career is guaranteed.
Also, the university in the south recruits 20 new students instead of 10, which means that I will stand a better chance of getting admitted.The competition is very keen, though, as you can see because this university doesn\'t give candidates any extra points.So all I can do now is study hard, pa the tough entrance exam, and qualify as a student of the university of my choice.135

There is an old English saying that there must be a use for my talent.I have regarded it as my motto for many years.From my point of view, there is no difference between one person and another.With some useful talent, you will make your contributions to this society.
When I was ten years old, there was an old man living at the corner of xx Road.He didn’t have the opportunity to study in school, but he learned how to make wood furniture.Every time people went to ask him to solve some problems of furniture, he was willing to help them.
To my surprise, in his spare time, he would make some toys with small piece s of wood.Some of them were sold to the toy store and others were given to us.The moment I see the lovely toys made by this old man, I would remember the happy childhood.
From this old man, we can see whatever kind of talent you have, you can find your own method to display your talent.The most important factor is your confidence.If you believe the saying that there must be a use for my talent, you will succeed.205
