One day, a colt took a bag of wheat to the mill.

As he was running with the bag on his back, he came to a small river. The colt could not decide whether he could cro it.Looking around, he saw a cow grazing nearby. He asked, \"Aunt Cow, could you tell me if I can cro the river?\" The cow told him that he could and that the river was not very deep, just knee high. The colt was croing the river when a squirrel jumped down a tree and stopped him.The squirrel shouted, \"Colt, stop! You\'ll drown! One of my friends drowned just yesterday in the river.\" Not knowing what to do, the colt went home to consult his mom.

He told his mom his experience on the way.His mother said, \"My child, don\'t always listen to others.You\'d better go and try yourself. Then you\'ll know what to do.\"

Later, at the river, the squirrel stopped the colt again.\"Little horse, it\'s too dangerous!\"

\"No, I want to try myself\", answered the colt. Then he croed the river carefully.

On the other side of the river, the colt realized that the river was neither as shallow as the cow said nor as deep as the squirrel told him.

You see, real knowledge comes from practice.

Gone With the Wind

As is known to all of us,《Gone With the Wind》is not only a famous novel which was written by Margaret Mitchell, but also a very popular movie which was performed by Vivien Leigh and William Clark Gable.《Gone With the Wind》reappeared the economic of southern plantations from prosperity to the collapse and the history of slavery economic was taken place by capitalist economic by describing the love entanglement and life experience of the heroine whose name was Scarlett.

《Gone With the Wind》was highly praised by the authorities of the movies. And it is regarded as a history scroll which reflected the great and profound changes of former polity, economic and morality.A large number of people are

like to watch this movie, and they think that《Gone With the Wind》has been a great miracle in the film history of Hollywood.

Most people think that《Gone With the Wind》is a love story which happened during American civil war between the north and south. But in my opinion, I think it is a story about growing. When she was young, Scarlett was enthusiastic, lively, and loved by many young men.She was a daughter of a plantation owner, and lived a rich life. She never needed to worry about food and money, and had never thought that she would lose her homeland one day.But after the war, after her mother was died, her father indulged in a life of pleasure and comfort, and relied too much on her mother, so she had to aume the responsibility of protecting Tara and her families.During the war, she was aware of a great sense of hunger and danger, so she must be stronger, braver and richer than before.Every coin has two sides, Scarlett’s character was polybasic and complicated. On the one hand, she was smart, brave and masterful; on the other hand, she was vain, greedy and cold-blooded.She was gradually disliked by many people, because she was arrogant, but she never cared about other people’s feelings, just did what she wanted to do.

No matte how difficult my life is, I just need to face it optimistically. That is what I have learned from Scarlett.“After all, tomorrow is another day.” This is the best explanation of her optimistic life.We can’t obliterate the adversity in life, so just a new mood facing a new day!

英语读后感

The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway\'s most enduring works and may very well become one of the true claics of this generation. It played a great part in his winning the Pulizer Prize in 1953 and the 1954 Novel Prize for Literature and confirmed his power and presence in the literary world.Hemingway is also one of my favorite writers.Besides The Old Man And the Sea, I have read some of his other works, such as The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms and The Snow of Kilimanijaro. But The Old Man and the Sea is the one that left the deepest impreion on me.I first read this book when I was in my fifteens. And now I remember it just as well as if I had read it yesterday.Pride and Prejudice is a chefdoeuvre. My first impreion of this story was from screen.It\'s long long ago, maybe before I can read english books.I don\'t remember which movie edition I had seen. But I was impreed by the music, the scenery and the costume.I was very favor of a section of music in its balls.It\'s pretty brisk, liked a wonderful song of a bird.Regarding to the characters, I liked Elizabeth, the heroine, though I didn\'t think she\'s beautiful. But she\'s smart. However, I didn\'t pay much attention to the plot.I thought it\'s so long that it made me impatient and bored.By now, I haven\'t read the whole story in English or its Chinese version, either.I owe it to my prejudice. In fact, I didn\'t understand the story at that time.I didn\'t know why it called Pride and Prejudice.Of course someone was pride, but I didn\'t find where\' s the prejudice.I thought it\'s normal, the way people treated each other in that.I considered prejudice would be very disgusting. But to the movie everthing was OK in my minds, except its length. Now, I think I have understood more about it.I\'m a prejudiced person so I can\'t find where\'s wrong.I merely like to do the things I like.Everytime I meet somebody or something,my thinking about he or it all depends on my foregone experience and my mood of the time.《The Adventures of Tom Sawyer》

A Reading Report of Wuthering Heights

The book I have read this term is Wuthering Heights.Emily Bronte (1818-1848) is perhaps the greatest writer of the three Bronte sisters——Charlotte Bronte, Emily, and Anne Bronte.Emily Bronte published only one novel, Wuthering Heights (1847).Some of her best lyric are also rated with the best in English poetry. Her famous poems are Love and Friendship, The Bluebell.

A man named Lockwood rents a manor house called Thrushcro Grange where the housekeeper Nelly tells him the story here. One day, Mr.Earnshaw, the owner of the manor, goes to Liverpool and returns home with an orphan boy.At first, the Earnshaw children——a boy named Hindley and his younger sister Catherine ——detest Heathcliff. But Catherine quickly comes to love him.Mr.Earnshaw prefers him to his own son, and he sends Hindley away to college when he treats Heathcliff badly. Then Mr.Earnshaw dies, and Hindley returns with a wife.He treats Heathcliff as a labor to seek revenge on him.One night, Heathcliff and Catherine wander to Thrushcro Grange.Catherine is bitten by a dog and is forced to stay at the the Grange.During that time, she infatuates with Edgar.Catherine’s desire for social advancement prompts her to become engaged to Edgar Linton.Heathcliff runs aways froms Wuthering Heights, and returning shortly after Catherine and Edgar’s marriage. Then he deviously lends money to drunken Hindley. When Hindley dies, he inherits the manor. He places himself in line to inherit Thrushcro Grange by marring Isabella Linton.Catherine becomes ill, she gives birth to a daughter and dies.Shortly therefore, Isabella flees to London and gives birth to Heathcliff’s son, named Hareton.Thirteen years pa, young Catherine meets Hareton. They began a secret

romance.Linton pursues Catherine only because his father forces him to.When Edgar nears death, Heathcliff lures and holds Catherine prisoner until she marries Linton. Then Edgar and Linton die soon.Six months later, Lockwood returns, and finds that Catherine grows to love Hareton as they live together and plan to be married.Heathcliff becomes more and more obseed with elder Catherine, and then dies soon.

Wuthering Heights is a claic tragedy of love.I am surprised by how much I like it.This is a book that talks about the death of romantic notions, even the relatively happen ending doesn’t reduce its sorrow. When I was wrapped up in the story, I am so moved by their true love and felt sadne deep in my heart. After reading the whole story, I would like to talk about the main character of the story——Catherine Earnshaw and her choice of marriage.Catherine does love Heathcliff very much for he is more herself than she is, but her choice of love really leads to the tragedy. In Catherine’s life, she made a very important decision in her life——marrying to Edgar. In fact, her love for Edgar can never be compared to that for Heathcliff. She did so, because she thought the wealth of Edgar would be useful to help Heathcliff.Heathcliff is a man full of retaliations. He loved Catherine very much, but what he did, on the contrary, added to the misery of Catherine, he should not walk into Catherine’s life again after his disappearance. At the same time, his revenge on young Catherine and Edgar as well as his own son seems so ridiculous and can only bring himself with endle sadne.

As far as I am concerned, the choice between true love and high social status is so difficult. Many people say that the life is real, you can not make a living only depend on romance, so most people persuade me to marry to a rich man.In the modern life, if one man has no house or money, it is difficult for him to find a wife.So we can not get rid of thinking of this fact.Different people have different attitudes towards happine. They should choose unique love from which they can find what they like best, in order that

they can stay happy all their lives. After reading, I have a better understanding of love.If you really love someone, his or her happine is the most matters. Not having a right understanding of and attitudes towards love will only result in hurting yourself as well as the one you love.In a ward, love is the permanent theme of literature and Human Beings.People often struggle in those troubling romantic notions. To be or not to be, it’s really a question. However, which kind of marriage one should choose depends all on his or her character and experience, no one else can make choice for them and that’s why every love story is unique.

推荐第10篇:英语名著英文读后感

Learn to love and care£¨Îí¶¼¹Â¶ù£© Here I am sitting on a couch alone, thinking about what I have just finished reading with tears of sadne filling my eyes and fire of indignation filling my heart, which revived my exhausted soul that has already been covered by the cruelty and the selfishne of the secular world for a long time.It is truly what I felt after reading Oliver Twist, written by the prominent British author Charles Dickens.

The resonance between me and the book makes me feel not only the kindne and the wickedne of all the characters in the novel, but what this aloof society lacks, and what I lack deep inside. These supreme resources I¡¯m talking about right now are somewhat different from minerals, oil that we usually mention. They¡¯re abstract like feelings, and some kinds of spiritual stimulation that all of us desire anxiously from one another ¡ª¡ª love and care.

Those charitable figures whom Dickens created in the novel are really what we need in life. They showed love and care to others, just as the gentle rain from the sky fell upon the earth, which was carved into my heart deeply.Mr.Brownlow is one such person.

The other day he had one of his elaborate watches stolen by two skilled teenage thieves, Artful Dodger and Charley Bates, and thought naturally it was Oliver, who was an orphan and forced to live with a gang of thieves, that had done it because he was the only one near by after the theft had taken place.Being wrathful, he caught Oliver, and sent him to the police station where the ill-tempered, unfair magistrates worked.Fortunately for him, Oliver was proved innocent by one onlooker afterwards. With sympathy, Mr.Brownlow took the injured, poor Oliver to his own home. There Oliver lived freely and gleefully for some months as if he were Mr.Brownlow¡¯s own son.One day, however, Mr.Brownlow asked Oliver to return some books to the bookseller and to send some money for the new books that he had already collected. The thief Oliver once stayed with kidnapped him. After that he disappeared in Mr.Brownlow¡¯s life.Searching for a while, Mr.Brownlow had to believe the fact that he had run away with his money. But dramatically, they came acro each other again a few years later.Without hesitation, Mr.Brownlow took Oliver home for the second time not caring if he had done something evil.

Perhaps most of us would feel confused about Mr.Brownlow¡¯s reaction. But as a matter of fact, this is just the leon we should learn from him.Jesus said in the Bible.¡°Forgive not seven times, but seventy-times seven.¡± Why is that? Because forgivene is our ability to remove negative thoughts and neutralize them so our energy may be spent on doing what we came here for.We cannot move forward in our future if past iues cloud our thinking.Stop put Mr.Brownlow into the list of your models.Always give people a second chance no matter what they might have done. That¡¯s also a substantial part of loving and caring others.

Charles Dickens said:¡°Love makes the world go around.¡± These immortal words have inspired and will keep on inspiring us to chant the melody of love and to say the prayer of care forevermore.Let us, therefore, enjoy life and treat other people lovingly. These principles are the roots and foundations of beliefs supporting this article and our miion together.

Pride and Prejudice £¨°ÁÂýÓëÆ«¼û£© Many people simply regard Pride and Prejudice as a love story, but in my opinion, this book is an illustration of the society at that time. She perfectly reflected the relation between money and marriage at her time and gave the people in her works vivid characters. The characters have their own personalities.Mrs.Bennet is a woman who makes great efforts to marry off her daughters.Mr.Bingley is a friendly young man, but his friend, Mr.Darcy, is a very proud man who seems to always feel superior.Even the five daughters in Bennet family are very different.Jane is simple, innocent and never speaks evil of others.Elizabeth is a clever girl who always has her own opinion.Mary likes reading claic books.(Actually she is a pedant.) Kitty doesn¡¯t have her own opinion but likes to follow her sister, Lydia.Lydia is a girl who follows exotic things, handsome man, and is somehow a little profligate. When I read the book, I can always find the same personalities in the society now. That is why I think this book is indeed the representative of the society in Britain in the 18th century.

The family of gentleman in the countryside is Jane Austen¡¯s favourite topic. But this little topic can reflect big problems. It concludes the stratum situation and economic relationships in Britain in her century. You can find these from the very beginning of this book.

The first sentence in this book is impreive. It reads: ¡°It is a truth well known to all the world that an unmarried man in poeion of a large fortune must be in need of a wife¡±.The undertone is very clear: the foundation of the marriage at that time is not emotion but poeion. People always think that Austen was an expert at telling love stories. In fact, the marriage in her book is not the result of love, but the result of economic needs. After reading this book, I know the truth is that a poor woman must be in need of a husband, a wealthy man.

I couldn¡¯t forget how eager Mrs.Bennet wants to marry off her daughters. If you want to know why she is so crazy about these things, I must mention the situation in Britain at that time.Only the eldest son had the privilege of inheriting his father¡¯s poeions.Younger sons and daughters who are used to luxurious lives have no choice but marry a man or woman in poeion of a large fortune to continue their comfortable lives. Thus, we can see that getting married is a way to become wealthier, particularly for women without many poeions.Jane Austen told us that money and poeion determined everything, including marriage and love in her century.

In ¡°Pride and Prejudice¡±, the sister of Mr.Bingley strongly opposed his plan of marrying Jane because the Bennets don¡¯t have many poeions and their social positions are much lower than them. From this, we can see there are a lot of obstacle for a not very rich woman to marry a wealthy husband. The society, the relatives would not allow them to get married.

In modern society, although the marriages of economic needs have decreased rapidly, the concept of ¡°money determines everything¡± is still rooted in some people¡¯s mind.A lot of parents try hard to interfere their children¡¯s marriages.Education background, poeions, jobs remains the main reason that may influence one¡¯s marriage.Marry for money is still a big problem in our society. We can¡¯t help thinking: can money determine everything?

Austen left this problem for us to think. The genius of Jane Austen lies in this perfect simplicity, the simplicity that reflects big problems.Although Austen was only 21 when she wrote ¡°Pride and Prejudice¡±, her sharp observation of social lives makes the style of this book surprisingly mature and lively. The plots in her works are always very natural. The development of the plot is as inevitable as a problem in mathematics.I think the depth of Pride and Prejudice is the reason that makes this book prominent and claic.Today, her book still can be the guide telling us the economic relationships both at her time and in modern time.

Leave Dead Man Island£¨ÍöÁ鵺£©

Carol was once a happy and sunshiny girl. But after her father died in a plane crash, she became bad and took drugs. She had secrets in her heart and didn¡¯t want others to know them. When Carol went to an island, she found the host had a bigger secret than hers: he had killed a girl in a car crash. So he needed an island to hide himself. This is the story in Dead Man¡¯s Island.

I think everybody has done something wrong and wants to keep the secrets in his or her heart. But do you know, even if we can escape from others¡¯ eyes, we can¡¯t escape from our own hearts.I had been told a story like this: A woman felt ill and she went to see a doctor. The doctor examined her carefully and told the woman, ¡®There is a tumor in your uterus. You¡¯d better take an operation immediately.¡¯ The woman agreed.

When the doctor cut open the woman¡¯s abdomen, he got such a big surprise¡ªthere was a baby in the uterus, not a tumor. The doctor was sweating all over.

¡®What to do? Take out the baby, or told the woman¡¯s husband that it was just a tumor?¡¯ ¡®But ¡- I am a doctor!¡¯ He thought.

At last, the doctor sewed up the woman¡¯s abdomen. When he told the woman¡¯s husband the truth, the man didn¡¯t move for a while. But then, the man jumped to the doctor, shouting at him.He was so angry and wanted to hit the doctor. After the accident, a friend of the doctor¡¯s asked him ¡®Why did you do so? If you took out the baby, no one knows.¡¯ ¡®But I know!¡¯ said the doctor.

I have a very similar experience. That was a Monday, I was cleaning the claroom after school.John, my friend came up to me.He was looking for my maths teacher. But the teacher had been after work.So I told John to come again the next day.I said to myself, if I met the maths teacher, I would tell him that John had been looking for him.

When I was on my way home, I just looked at the ground, thinking about something. At that moment, my maths teacher came towards me and paed by.When I realized that, it was too late. The teacher had gone far away.

At night, when I was lying on the bed, my brain was full of the thing happened in the afternoon. The next day, John would find the maths teacher and not think about me, just as nothing happened. But I felt sorry for John.I wanted to do something for him, but I didn¡¯t.Nobody knew what my idea was, but I knew.

Many things like the dead man on the island. After the crash, he made himself ¡®dead¡¯ and hid on the island.Maybe, he made others forget the crash, forget himself, but he couldn¡¯t forget. He always felt remorseful and locked himself in his heart house.

What others think is not important, we should listen to ourselves.

I think every one may face sad things, like relatives¡¯ death, miing the good high school, losing your best friends.Sometimes we feel cro and often ask ¡®Why does the God do this to me?¡¯

To let oneself feel better, we maybe do more wrong things. But happy and free time is transient. After that, we will have ourselves, hate life, hate everybody.

We want to forget, but can¡¯t.more and more secrets are hidden in hearts. We close our window, and it is dark inside.Old days follow us forever, how we wanted the ¡®man¡¯ in the past can die.Nothing matters.Sadne is filled in our body.We live just like a dead man.

Escaping can do nothing.Beginning a new life is the most important, take sadne but live strongly.

When Carol left Dead Man island, I think she knew this all.The host influenced her.Don¡¯t be remorseful any more, face new life, no hiding, no giving up the beautiful life, show the world a real self.

Leave Dead Man¡¯s Island, let a bunch of sunshine get into your heart house.

Hamlet£¨¹þÄ·À×ÌØ£© Shakspere (wrong spelling) created Hamlet--a man with wisdom and courage .In order to revenge on his uncle for killing his father, he pretented (spelling mistake) to be mad and suffered a series of misery. On the contrary, we can also say that Hamlet is rude and selfish for he did not think twice before his revenge .if (Capitalize \"If\" since it is the beginning word of the sentence.) a country has no king, how can a country keep alive (You need a question mark here since it is a question.) So, every thing has two sides, the bright side and adumbral side.Every time we make a decision we have to think twice.Comment: Be careful with your spelling, grammar, and punctuation.Too many unceary mistakes. It is good that you looked at both the dark and bright sides of Hamlet.Thats quite objective and convincing.

第11篇:The Pianist(英语名著读后感)

ThePianist

The book “The Pianist” is an autobiographical book written by Wladyslaw Szpilman, who was known as the most accomplished piano player in all of Poland, even in Europe in the 1930s.Szpilman died in 2000 at the age of 88, and he wrote down the amazing story immediately after the liberation of Poland, which tells his struggle to survive Nazi occupation of Poland during World War II.

Szpilman became subject to anti-Jewish laws imposed by the conquering Germans.By the start of the 1940s, Szpilman had seen his world would go from piano concert halls to the Jewish Ghetto of Warsaw and then must suffer the tragedy of his family deported to a death camp.At last deciding to escape, Szpilman went into hiding as a Jewish refugee where he was a witne to the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in 1943 and the Warsaw City Revolt in 1944.

In 1999, this book was rewarded as one of the best books.“ \'The Pianist,\' Wladyslaw Szpilman\'s remarkable memoir of his survival in Warsaw between the years 1939 and 1945, is a significant contribution to the literature of remembrance, a document of lasting historical and human value. It has all the rawne and specificity of horrors painfully and uncomprehendingly withstood and afterward just as uncomprehendingly --but necearily-- recorded.Writing this book would seem to have been a further act of survival by a man who performed more of them in six years than most human beings do in a lifetime. There are many ways to read a book about the Holocaust, and one of them, surely, inevitably, is to try to answer the unanswerable: What makes one man endure when so many others succumb? From Szpilman\'s testimony we learn this: It is an ineffable and wholly unpredictable mixture of fate, determination, accident, instinct. To know Wladyslaw Szpilman is, in the most hopele of contexts, to know a modicum of hope” (L.A.Times Sunday Book Review, December 5, 1999).It has been reprinted for many times and was translated to at least 30 kinds of languages. And it was also been made into a movie, which won three Oscars: best director, best actor, and best adapted screenplay.

After finishing appreciating the book as well as the movie, I was deeply shocked

and moved. In the ghetto, people lived in fear from minute to minute, starving, ill, tired and witneing scenes of unspeakable horror.People were shot at random by bored German soldiers; others were registered and sent to concentration camps.By contrast, we are so happy to live in the peaceful world, with enough food, sound body and freedom. There’s no excuse to complain, the only thing we should do is to cherish our beautiful life.

On the proce of Szpilman’s escape, a number of people help him to survive, including his friends and bo and even a Germany caption. That remains me the humanity, which exists among people in every corner of the world. We all have families, we all have friends, and we all have the right to live. But do the Germans really can’t understand this point? It seems that they take killing others as game, but after burning the dead bodies of the Jews, they become talk about their own mothers…… War, it’s all because the war.How many innocent people die? How much unneceary lo is caused?

In the end, I would say that everyone has the responsibility to object to and avoid violence and wars, and we must build a harmonious world through our own efforts. Then we can really live a happy life.

1、Pride and Prejudice VolumeⅠ

chapter1 It is a truth universally acknowledgedthat a single man inpoeion of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife. However little known the feelings or views of such a manmay be on his first entering a neighborhood, this truth is so wellfixed in the minds of the surrounding families, that he isconsidered as the rightful property of some one or other of theirdaughters.‘My dear Mr.Bennet,’ said his lady to him one day, ‘have youheard that Netherfield Park is let at last?’

Mr.Bennet replied that he had not.‘But it is,’ returned she; ‘for Mrs.Long has just been here, andshe told me all about it.’

Mr.Bennet made no answer.‘Do not you want to know who has taken it?’ cried his wifeimpatiently.‘You want to tell me, and I have no objection to hearing it.’ This was invitation enough.‘Why, my dear, you must know, Mrs.Long says that Netherfieldis taken by a young man of large fortune from the north ofEngland; that he came down on Monday to seethe place, and was so much delighted with it that he agreed withMr.Morris immediatelyand some of his servants are to be in the house by theend of next week.”

2、Pride and Prejudice VolumeⅢ

chapter17 “My dear Lizzy, where can you have been walking to?”was a question which Elizabeth received from Janeas soon as she entered their room, and from all theothers when they sat down to table. She had only to say in reply, that they had wandered about, till she was beyond her ownknowledge. She colored as she spoke; but neither that, nor anything else, awakened a suspicion of the truth. The evening

paed

quietly,

unmarked talked

by and

anything laughed, extraordinary. The acknowledged lovers theunacknowledged were silent.Darcy was not of a disposition inwhich happine overflows in mirth; and Elizabeth, agitated andconfused, rather knew that she was happy, than felt herself to beso; for, besides the immediate embarrament, there were otherevils before her.She anticipated what would be felt in the familywhen her situation became known; she was aware that no oneliked him but Jane; and even feared that with the others it was adislike which not all his fortune and consequence might do away.

3、The little prince discovers a garden of roses \"Good morning,\" he said.He was standing beforea garden, all abloomwithroses.\"Good morning,\" said theroses. The little prince gazed atthem. They all looked like hisflower.\"Who are you?\" hedemanded, thunderstruck.\"We are roses,\" the roses said. And he was overcome with sadne. His flower had told him that she was the onlyone of her kind in all the universe. And here were five thousand of them, all alike, in onesingle garden! \"She would be very much annoyed,\" he said to himself, \"if she should see that...shewould cough most dreadfully, and she would pretend that she was dying, to avoid beinglaughed at.And I should be obliged to pretend that I was nursing her back to lifeforif Idid not do that, to humble myself also, she would really allow herself to die...\" Then he went on with hisreflections: \"I thought that Iwas rich, with a flower thatwas unique in all the world;and all I had was a commonrose.A common rose, andthree volcanoes that come upto my kneesandone ofthem perhaps extinct forever...that doesn’t make me a verygreat prince...\" And he lay down in the gra and cried.

4、The little prince consoles the narrator \"All men have the stars,\" he answered, \"but they are not the same things for differentpeople. For some, who are travelers, the stars are guides. For others they are no morethan little lights in the sky.For others, who are scholars, they are problems. For mybusineman they were wealth. But all these stars are silent. You, youalone, willhavethe stars as no one else has them\" \"What are you trying to say?\" \"In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing. And so it willbe as if all the stars were laughing, when you look at the sky at night...you, onlyyou, willhave stars that can laugh!\" And he laughed again.\"And when your sorrow is comforted (time soothes all sorrows), you will be contentthat you have known me.You will always be my friend. You will want to laugh with me.And you will sometimes open your window, so, for that pleasure...and your friends willbe properly astonished to see you laughing as you look up at the sky! Then you will sayto them, ‘Yes, the stars always make me laugh!’ And they will think you are crazy. It will bea very shabby trick that I shall have played on you...\"

5、Three Days to See All of us have read thrilling stories in which the hero had only a limited and specified time tolive.Sometimes it was as long as a year; sometimes as short as twenty-four hours, but always wewere interested in discovering just how the doomed man chose to spend his last days or his lasthours.I speak, of course, of free men who have a choice, not condemned criminals whose sphereof activities is strictly delimited.Such stories set up thinking, wondering what we should do under similar circumstances. What aociations should we crowd into those last hours as mortal beings? What happine shouldwe find in reviewing the past, what regrets? Sometimes I have thought it would be an excellent rule to live each day as if we should dietomorrow.Such an attitude would emphasize sharply the values of life.We should live each daywith a gentlene, a vigor, and a keenne of appreciation which are often lost when time stretchesbefore us in the constant panorama of more days and months and years to come.

6、Youth Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind; it is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees; it is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions; it is the freshne of the deep springs of life.Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20.Nobody grows old merely by a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals.Whether 60 or 16, there is in every human being’s heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing appetite for what’s next and the joy of the game of living. In the center of your heart and my heart, there is a wirele station; so long as it receives meages of beauty, hope, courage and power from man and from the infinite, so long as you are young.

When your aerials are down, and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of peimism, then you’ve grown old, even at 20; but as long as your aerials are up, to catch waves of optimism, there’s hope you may die young at 80.

7、A reason, season, or lifetime People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need youhave expreed. They have come to aist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally, or spiritually. They are there for the reason you need them to be.Then, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.Sometimes they walk away.Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand.Sometimes they die. What we must realize is that our need has been met, their work is done, and now it is time to move on.When people come into your life for a SEASON, it is because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn. They bring you an experience of peace, or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy, but only for a season.LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime leons; things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation.Your job is to accept the leon, love the person, and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life.

In the paage, from the very beginning, the local person informed Mr.Durbeyfield of his grand lineage, thus, setting in motion the events that changed the fate of Te Durbeyfield forever.Mr.Durbeyfield treated this as fate and sent Te to check on a family named D’Urberville living in a manor house le than a day’s carriage ride away to see if they were the last piece of their ancient and knightly family of D’Urbervilles. On the other hand, let them to do favor to Te’s family.Unfortunately, Te was seduced by a so-called kinsman——Alec, and from then her life was totally ruined from the lo of her innocence.Maybe lord pities her and brought her someone she loved with her whole heart and life——Angel Clare.Angel popped the question to her but she refused him without saying why.She said she loved him deeply and perhaps no one in the world could love him more than she did.But she couldn’t marry him for some unspoken reason.Somehow Angel did his best to win Te and she finally agreed. They soon fixed the wedding day, the day they both confeed to each other.Angel confeed the crime he committed to a woman long time ago and Te forgave him at once, but Te was not forgiven as she thought she would be.They soon separated and Te returned home, suffered plenty of torment until finally married Alec for the sake of her family, while Angel went to another country.Years later, Angel found that he couldn’t live without Te, he came back to find her.But it was too late. However Te loved Angel so much that she murdered the so-called gentleman Alec. They ran away and spent five last happy day together before Te was arrested.

After reading the great masterpiece, there are three points I’d like to talk about.

First, Te’s tragedy is social and environmental tragedy.

The story set in the Victorian Period, people’s mind was closed and rather ignorant due to the feudal empire’s domineering.I can almost imagine the pale clothes they wore, the flummery they talked, and decadently the seemed, especially for those poor people worked with Te.Yes, Te did lose her innocence. But people looked down upon her so much.Actually before Te was seduced, she knew nothing of men.She was just a girl when she first met the terrible man.People were just too ignorant to accept a girl who made a mistake unwillingly. What was worse, Te closed her mind too. When she was forced by the goip and the church blamed her, she thought she deserved nothing good. And even when she met

Angel, she wasn’t daring to marry him just shamed of her past.Love someone, you should love her past as well as her present.Te is an ideal beautiful woman in my view, but her weakne of being afraid of fighting against disappoints me in some aspects. She thought she deserved nothing good after losing innocence. Why didn’t she fight against? Just because the environment and goip, she was punished though it wasn’t her fault indeed.I believe that Te’s tragedy is social and environmental tragedy.I appeal that people, especially women, should be open-minded and brave to fight against all the hardship.

Second, women should have the same rights as men in love.

We can easily notice that at the night of Te and Angel’s wedding, they confeed to each other, Te forgave Angel at once and thought she would be forgiven, too, which did not happen.Life means nothing good after losing Angel. But she forgave Angel again when he came back and even murdered for eloping with Angel.I couldn’t help to ask why a man could abandon a woman he loved with all his life and soul just because her unwillingly mistake long time ago.Someone said that is because Angel loved Te so much that he couldn’t accept that.Isn’t this ridiculous? Why are men always forgiven while women always suffering? Why are men always lying while women always sincere? I reckon that both two sides should sacrifice and change if they love each other. So I appeal the equal rights for women in love.

Third, “To be LOVED, or to be LOVING?”

I blame Mr.Alec, too.For his monstrous behavior. But I reckon that at least he loved Te.Doesn’t wanting to own someone mean you love her? Alec must know Te didn’t love him and had married anther man.But he still married Te and helped her poor family get out of any trouble.Te was totally loved marrying him.Somehow Te loved Angel, she decided to murder Alec.A man loved her and a man she loved, Te chose the later.Nowadays, many people prefer to be loved rather than loving someone.Maybe they think that loving someone is fatiguing, so they choose to be loved. While I think we should still love, in that way, the world is warmer.
