本句恰到好处的运用了虚拟语气。就像被惊雷击中了一样震惊。比喻运用的十分恰当，生动形象的描绘了吃惊的场面。而且运用的双重否定，加强了句子的语气，感情更加强烈。

本句重复使用了“alone”“again”，强烈的突出了Dantes 孤单绝望的心情。“never again，never again”显现出Dantes 极度的渴望再次听到牧师的声音，但是再也听不到了。作者描述四年，并没有单纯的描述思念人，而是写再也听到到他的声音，使得情感更加真挚。

“Forsake not”这样表达感觉情感很强烈，对读者内心的冲击也很是剧烈。树从没有放弃过花，而是花从树上落下。 借助似然现象来表达情感，有种奇妙感。是这句话充满哲理的味道，这就是自然现象，自然真理，无可质疑。

本句运用了对比，将与父亲的爱和对伯爵的进行对比，凸显之间的差别。 用死来解释两人之间的感情，不新颖。但是此句加上了“My father died, but I did not die.”感情就有了微妙的变化。使得感情更加的真诚，真挚。
