When I was a little boy, I used to swim in the river near my home, enjoying myself in the clean and clear water .Now twelve years have paed, what happened to the river?
Rubbish has been thrown into the river; liquid waste has been discharged into the water.The water is now dark brown.
In China, each year an estimated 178,000 people suffer early deaths due to air pollution.In the last two centuries, the human destruction of the ecosystem has led to the daily extinction of 20 species.We affect the world around us with science and technology as powerful tools .It is true that the advancement of science and technology have brought us much wealth and convenience .Yet at the same time, we see Yangzi River flooding because of soil erosion .We see pastures fading away because of desertification .We see sky turning gray without birds flying because of pollution.However, to our pleasure, the government has taken neceary steps.Here in Jiangsu, by last week, most rivers had been dredged .In addition; awarene of environment protection is being rooted in the people’s minds.Just a few weeks ago, coming back home in the countryside, I saw my fellow villagers protesting in front of a chemical factory for its
pouring wastewater into a nearby river.
It’s time that environment laws be put into real practice!
It’s time that every one of us protects our mother nature not only with words but also with deeds!
It’s time that governments work closely to take actions to protect our environment!
