Good evening! Ladies and Gentlemen.It’s a great honor for me to be here.What I’d like to talk about today is “looking on life’s bright side.” When encountering difficulties in life, some of us will feel despreed and even choose to bury their heads in the sand.Unfortunately, this attitude will not do you any good, because if you don’t even have courage to face them, how can you have the chance to conquer them? Thus, be optimistic, as it can bring you confidence and help you get through the hard times, just as Winston Churchill once said, “An optimist sees an opportunity in every calamity; a peimist sees a calamity in every opportunity.” To give an example, when I was 15, there was something wrong with my right ear.There was a tumor in it.So I had to have an operation.After that, I lost my hearing.Now you can see a scar beside my right ear.At first, I was very sad and just stayed at home every day.I was wondering why it is so unfair to me.But after a long talk with my father, I realised I was so lucky, I still have one ear to listen to the sounds of the world.I also have eyes, arms and so on.I can still do whatever I want to do, and this experience also made me believed that everyone has bad luck and good luck, the man who stays optimistic through bad luck is the man who is ready to receive good luck when it comes.As you can see, I am the man, and how lucky I am now.For instance, I can play games, listen to music and enjoy everything in life.Most luckily, I have this chance to talk with all of you.
My dear friends, stay optimistic, and you will be able to realize, in spite of some hardships, there’s always hope waiting for you, which will lead you to the ultimate succe.To illustrate this point.Take for example, Thomas Edison who was considered by many to be an optimist; otherwise, the light of hope in his heart could not have brightened the whole world.Alfred Nobel kept a good spirit of optimism towards life; otherwise, the explosive and the prestigious Nobel Prize would not have came into being.And Lance Armstrong, another optimist usually look on life on the bright side; otherwise, the devil of cancer would have devoured his life and the world would not see a 5-time winner of the Tour De France.

There are people who have succeeded beyond all expectation – no matter what they looked like, or where they came from.One of my favorite role models who comes to mind is Barack Obama, the president of the United States.When Obama was ten years old, he wrote these words in his diary: I want to be President.I want to make everyone find their own happine.This dream was so ridiculous at that time; for a black man, it was difficult to be treated equally in America, let alone become a president.But the power of belief constantly inspired him to carry on.As the saying goes, the man with belief can brave any storm.Obama has overcome all the incredible obstacles and frustrations on his road to power.And the quote “yes, we can” which is often in his speeches, has inspired so many young people around the world.My dear friends, just take courage from all these great achievements.They are an inspiration not only for me, but for everyone.Because all it takes is a belief---a belief that we can all do it.My dear friends, today is our chance to answer the call of a new era.Never doubt yourself, but believe in yourselves.Believe that, we, everyone of us, can make a positive difference to the world.And don’t wait for the right opportunity to fall in your lap.Because it never will.All you need to do is to carve your own path, no matter what the odds are.So start today.Create your own opportunities and forge your own future.Your belief together with your courage will take you into an even brighter future, into a world where you can be the winner you expect to be.Thank you for listening.
